📝 Survey amongst informally trained members of the public engaged in scientific endeavours reveals the majority - especially younger & non-white participants - preferred the term 'community' over 'citizen' science.

👥 The reserachers received a total of 638 responses from people involved in the programmes at Field Museum and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, practitioners involved with Worldwide Engagement for Digitizing Biocollections and partner organisations.

Hosted at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes - ce3c, the Biodiversity Assessments at Small Scales (BASS) project is to study how microclimatic conditions (e.g. solar radiation) influence biodiversity dynamics (e.g. species occurrence, biotic interactions) within a Mediterranean context.

To do this, the team established a network of 16 fixed sampling points across the Lisbon University field station - Herdade da Ribeira Abaixo (HRA), Grândola (South Portugal).

⚠️ According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the gymnosperm is currently an endangered species.

📈 However, recently, the plant's population began to show promising signs of a steady recovery.

🧐 In their new Research Idea, a research team from The University of Utah and the Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society Inc. propose five experiments to find out why is that.

A holistic, yet realistic approach with tangible goals facilitates the maturation of a DNA collection in an efficient, durable manner. One way to carry out this approach is to use this key to bringing DNA collections to the next level, by the DiSSCo Flanders project: https://doi.org/10.3897/rio.10.e135978

🇪🇺 The Horizon Europe-funded project supports the development of the Trans-European Nature Network (TEN-N) through transdisciplinary research.

👌 Having started in 2022 and set to continue until 2026, NaturaConnect seeks to develop data, analytical tools, and knowledge to support solutions —namely, the blueprint for TEN-N configurations.

👍 The project is to also analyse best practices for governance of area-based conservation measures and potential funding mechanisms to provide the European Commission and Member States with a comprehensive set of planning and implementation support tools.
