Snow is slowing down for I-35 and for Rochester, but should continue on/off even into the early afternoon for counties furthest east. Impacts here will be a step above the rest. Another 1-3" is possible for Fillmore, Houston, Winona, Howard, Winneshiek Co.
Impacts will linger in Fillmore, Houston, Winona, Howard, and Winneshiek counties through the early afternoon as on/off snow continues and winds blow snow around. Impacts here will generally be a step above the rest.
An impactful winter storm is on the way for N Iowa and SE MN. Snow begins tonight after 6pm, peaks Tuesday morning, and ends around 4-6pm. Amounts vary between 2-4" well north of I-90, and 6-9" well south. Travel will be difficult to dangerous Tuesday.
Happy first Hump Day! 🐪 Wednesday is a cloudy day with temps mostly stuck around 30 degrees. Don't be surprised if you encounter some flurries here and there. Skies clear Thursday. We are watching for a few opportunities for accumulating snow this weekend and early next week.
Temps rise into the mid to upper 30s on Tuesday, as southerly winds begin to push our temps well above average for the rest of the week.
US-14 Incident
Several emergency vehicles have responded to an incident affecting the eastbound lanes of US-14 at the exit ramp for US-52 southbound. We are following this and will provide updates on KIMT.com
Patchy to dense freezing fog between north Iowa (Charles City, Mason City Forest City) and up to Albert Lea could continue to slow down travel for the next 1-2 hours. Be mindful of slick roads in areas where fog is quite dense. Skies will clear by lunch.
Temps are a bit below average today, with most of the day in the 30s underneath cloudy skies. Don't be surprised if you encounter a stray snowflake lofting through the wind. Winds out of the south drive temps into the upper 50s Sunday, and 60s next week with some sunshine!
Temps a bit warmer Wednesday afternoon amid clouds with highs in the upper 30s. Still breezy with winds gusting 20+mph. More sunshine on the way tomorrow!
Snow will continue just est of US-52 for the next hour or two, where there have already been a number of accidents. Skies gradually clear for all this afternoon for trick-or-treating!
Snow squalls ❄️ are short and intense bursts of heavy snow and wind, and there is a potential for them Halloween morning as a potent area of low pressure slides through. If a snow squall warning is issued for your area, stay off the roads. Skies will clear for trick-or-treating!
Scattered showers continue in North Iowa now, while rain will be moving into Albert Lea & Austin between 8:30-9:30am. Rochester/Fillmore closer to 11am-noon. Steady and at times heavy showers continue into the afternoon, with a break possible for North Iowa this evening. More rain Friday!
RADAR CHECK 4:45PM - A line of showers continues to push through our viewing area. More organized t-storms with gusts 30+ mph are moving through S Minnesota, meanwhile lighter showers will prevail in N Iowa.
After this line, occasional lighter rain showers will be possible through the remainder of Saturday evening. Expect a rather wet rest of the day.
A single destructive severe storm is rolling south along US-52 as of 3:30PM Monday. Be mindful of ~very~ large hail and strong winds with this.
The atmosphere is less conducive to this storm as it moves south towards Rochester. But given how strong it is, we may see it move into Dodge/Olmsted counties after 4:30PM. It should be weakening here.
