This week marks 55 years since the Rolling Stones made music history in the small town of Sheffield, AL, at the iconic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. During their time here, they recorded three legendary tracks that would be included on their album Sticky Fingers.

The Stones played a monumental role in shaping the story of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, and we’re thrilled to celebrate their legacy whenever the anniversary rolls around.

Honoring Percy Sledge today on what would have been his 84th. birthday. Percy Tyrone Sledge was a Shoals native and an R&B, soul and gospel singer. He is best known for the song "When a Man Loves a Woman", a No. 1 hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles charts in 1966.

Swampathon 2.0 Live Musical Performance Highlight and event Sponsor: Jill Riley.

Preparing to release her upcoming project "The Other Side" recorded here at the studio. Here are few words from the artists on her experience:

"To be honest, I was at my wits end with relational
issues in life. I went to Muscle Shoals for two basic
reasons, neither of which was to actually cut a
record.

ONE was to rest, but my brain does not know how
to do that. Churchill said, “The only way to rest the
brain is to give something different to do.” I was
working on the debut of the multimedia stage
production for the last album, Common Ground.
Relationships were plaguing me.

TWO It was beyond high time to start getting really
good “guitar/vocals” of all the songs I’ve written
over the years but have still not recorded. I would
use this opportunity to get some things off my
chest. I was attempting to carry a project message
all about loving one another well - returning to
mutual respect in our culture and society, but
nearly every relationship I had at the time was
strained. It was time to face it all.

I sat down in this chair with the plan of coming
into Muscle Shoals Sound Studio for ten days
straight, slowing my pace way down, and
working on one song a day including all guitar
parts, lead vocals, and background vocals
with plenty of time to be experimental. The
pace went way faster than I expected and I
couldn’t seem to slow it down. On the third
day, I shot out of bed suddenly on fire to track
the songs...""

Musical Performance Highlight for Swampathon 2.0: Katlyn Barnes!

Katlyn Barnes is a singer-songwriter from the Shoals with a love for blending soul, R&B, and rock into music that feels honest and heartfelt. Influenced by artists like Brittany Howard, Amy Winehouse, and Etta James she draws on deep emotion and storytelling to connect with her audience.

In 2018, she released her first single, and in 2023, her debut album Into the Blue introduced her sound to a wider audience. Along the way, she spent two years as a choir teacher, sharing her passion for music with local students.

In addition to her solo work, Katlyn is a working session vocalist at renowned studios in the Shoals and in Nashville. She is currently recording her next project, continuing to grow as an artist while staying true to her roots.
