Sloane is a lifestyle brand for women. Women who don’t feel the need to conform to conventions of the past. Who are free. Who do whatever they want. It’s wild, whimsical and unrestricted. But more than that. It’s the embodiment of a feeling that riding brings. It’s not just about motorcycling. It’s about being in charge, being free, having fun, being happy, being indulgent, being part of something
. It’s about taking your life in your own hands and owning whatever happens. Sloane is a magazine. JOIN US FOR THE RIDE! It’s going to be wild! We’ve got big ideas for Sloane – some may say slightly crazy ideas. Our readers/viewers/members will be invited to join the journey as we create a universal movement. The first part of that journey will be the release of Sloane, the print magazine scheduled for release in the NZ/Australian Summer 2015/2016 and quarterly thereafter. We’ll be blogging updates and asking for all kinds of input and contributions from women riders the world over. Through our blog right here and of course, on social media (Facebook/Instagram/Twitter), we’ll keep you updated on progress and ‘take’ you with us on photo shoots and story assignments so you’ll know exactly what to expect when the print mag comes out! Of course, because we’re based right here in New Zealand, there will be a certain bias towards Kiwi women and their bikes…and of course our sisters across the ditch. But ultimately Sloane will encapsulate the global women’s motorcycle movement. It’s a movement that is growing fast as greater numbers of women discover the joy of owning and riding their own motorcycle. Our goal is to foster that movement – to bring it even closer so that women riders of all ages and nationalities can enjoy a sisterhood of encouragement and support. And through this process we aim to develop safer riding practices through shared knowledge and expertise. Whether you’re a woman who has always dreamed about riding her own bike but never had the courage to twist that throttle on her own for the first time; a learner who has just recently embarked on what can be scary and frustrating first time lessons; or the more intermediate and advanced rider who has the confidence to help other women join the journey – SLOANE will resonate with you all! Sloane will be your friend – here to inspire, inform, and entertain. But we can’t do it without your input! Will you join us? Here’s what we need:
— Writers who ride OR riders who write! Do you want to be published? Have you got some writing samples you could send us? What’s your style? Do you have some ideas you’d like to share? Tap out some lines and drop us an email.
— Photographers: are you an experienced photographer with an established portfolio or an aspiring student photographer who is keen to have work published for the first time? We'd love to hear from you!
— Brand ambassadors: Will you help us spread the word about Sloane? We need brand ambassadors who will be willing to help us mobilise a global movement! People who will champion the magazine and brand; assist us to organise distribution networks in their towns and cities; spread the word to other women riders; join us on social media; and generally encourage and support other female riders. We want to hear from you!
— YOUR FEEDBACK and IDEAS! Of course, we’ve got a ton of ideas ourselves – but ideally we want to hear from YOU, our audience! In the meantime...some questions for ya!:
What kinds of things do you think are missing in the current crop of bike magazines – either print and digital? What kind of content would interest you the most as a female rider? How would you like to be involved? Do you have story ideas you’d like to share? Is there an event/rally or gathering happening that you think Sloane should report on? Would you – or your female bike friends – like to feature in our pages at some stage? We’ll be heading all over the country – and overseas – in search of female riders to profile and feature within our pages. If you think you can help with any of the above, please contact me! I promise to respond. Lastly, the print mag is only the first stage of our journey - we've got three more stages along the way… but we need to keep them under wraps for now. I promise you'll be the first to know! In the meantime, we look forward to sharing the ride! Founder/Publisher/Editor SUE HOYLE
