When fitting hearing aids, the software generates an "estimated" prescription, often called "first fit" by audiologists.

The reality is, the shape of your ear canals and the unique variations in each individual hearing aid mean that this estimate is almost always inaccurate...sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.

Hearing professionals need to do better...

As hearing aid technology improves, the hearing providers who only offer a bare minimum of care are going to find patients opting for more cost-effective and OTC solutions that provide comparable benefits to much more expensive premium solutions.

Only the providers who help patients get the most out of their prescription devices will be valuable in a near future with high-quality self-fit hearing technology.

Getting excellent results with hearing treatment is more than just getting the "best hearing aids".

Sure, excellent technology that's appropriate for your lifestyle is great...

But if it's not fit properly, and if you're not supported with personalized care from your hearing professional...

You might as well just buy cheap hearing aids.

Research supports this.

You might find yourself thinking, "But surely if I'm getting hearing aids from a Doctor of Audiology, I'll receive best practice care..."

Unfortunately, the evidence indicates that only somewhere between 5-30% of hearing professionals in the US follow comprehensive best practices.

I wish this weren't true.

I would love to live in a world where you could go to any audiologist and receive excellent care.

In fact, I'm on a personal mission to spread awareness of this issue and encourage hearing professionals to adopt these best practices.
