I have created this page to chronicle my journey through the art and sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My name is Jonathan, a brand new white belt who just started BJJ a month ago because my son,10 years old, who has been doing mixed martial arts for about a year and half started to surpass the knowledge I had of the sport. I am a 33 year old disabled veteran, single father, and full time college stud
ent so I will preface everything else with this, this sport is one that is best started young because I am sore and hurt every day. The fact that I am injured from my time in the Marine Corps does not help. But, non the less I have caught the jitz bug and I have been training hard. Throughout the life of this page I plan to document my trials and tribulations, interview people in this sport from unknown white belts to the most famous patrons. I am going to give product reviews, get training advice, find YouTube training videos and do them and let you know what I think. I will post about competitions, to include the ones I do, as well as info on the ones I can not attend. I plan to travel the country and the world to different gyms, train there, and talk to the patrons that train there to share their experiences. I have not been in this sport long, but I have learned that this sport is not a selfish sport, it is a humbling sport. That humbling experience bonds competitors much like bootcamp bonds Marines. People, in the majority, want to help you grow, share techniques, and cheer you on through your journey because as my friend, mentor, and Coach Shane Woosley told me "making me better, makes those I train with better."
