The location behind me is the famed home of the Ogopogo. The local syilx people believe that Rattlesnake island is the meeting point of the two worlds of land and water. I was fortunate enough to visit the island (though I didn’t set foot there) in May of 2023. It was an absolute blast and so glad I could cross that off my bucket list!

At Monsterfest this year, I was extremely honored to present my film Cursed Waters: Creature of Lake Okanagan to a whole audience of people at the Canton Palace Theater.

There was a lot happening at that time, but I did take some time to fully appreciate my first real movie premiere. Not all filmmakers have their movies show at a theater for a premiere, much less one as nice and historic as the Palace Theater, and the significance of the event was not lost on me.

On a personal level though, I was very proud to have this movie shown there. I’ve edited together a few features at this point, but none that I have enjoyed as much as Cursed Waters. So to have a film, that I personally think is my best, shown to a crowd meant a lot to me, and I’m even more thankful that people actually enjoy it.

So huge shout out to and for making this premiere happen and putting their faith in me to make a film about Ogopogo.

For those interested, Cursed Waters will be released on all digital platforms in August!

I recently finished the editing process on a film I’ve been working on for a while, Cursed Waters: The Creature of Lake Okanagan. The film takes a look at Ogopogo, a lake monster from British Columbia, and goes over a lot of the purported video and picture evidence of the creature.

This is one of my personal favorites that I have made. The filming process was a very intense and action packed two days, but the result is a film that flows smoothly and is filled with compelling interviews. It’s not often I get to shine a spotlight on a Cryptid that doesn’t get much mainstream attention, and even rarer that that Cryptid has anything compelling to it at all, but when I left Kelowna in May of last year, I was fairly convinced that Ogopogo was real.

I do want to thank Jason Hewlett for really helping out with coordinating the shoot. I keep saying it but it needs to be documented, that without Jason, I probably wouldn’t have interviewed half the people I interviewed in the film. Nor would I have been able to seek those people out and find them. Jason was an invaluable part of this production and I can’t thank him enough for that.

I hope Cursed Waters is a thought provoking experience for those who watch, when it eventually releases in June of this year (and premieres at Monsterfest 2). I’ve certainly enjoyed the process of creating it and only hope that the audience will get some of that enjoyment as well.

A new episode of Road to Discovery comes out today for Squad Members and on Sunday for the general public. This episode focuses on a trackway that was discovered by Chris Spencer and Shane Corson and had has some of my favorite moments from that trip back in September, some on screen and a lot off it.

I hope everyone can watch and enjoy this episode and become a squad member to watch it today!

Excited to share this project with the public! Last year I had the chance to visit British Columbia and Lake Okanagan to look into the mystery of the Ogopogo. I teamed up with and we did a lot in two days being there. Although it was a short shoot, it is by far one of the most memorable due to the many people we met and the stunning location of where we were. I can’t wait to share the final project, the way its taking shape is very exciting to me and I think it may be one of the most unique Small Town Monsters projects yet!
