Incredible to see South Korea to make it through the group last night at Uruguay’s expense in such dramatic fashion. We received a DM that we’d like to share :

‘Hi! We’re Nutty FC, a women’s football team based in Seoul. We formed the club in 2019, to make women’s football culture more diverse and creative. As you can see with the word ‘Nutty’, which means "geek", we’re trying to develop original activities; not only by playing football on the field, but also by encouraging everyone to enjoy the culture of football.
You might know or have heard about the story of the Dick, Kerr Ladies F.C. in 1917. It was a team that kept playing football against the FA’s ban.
In an effort to conserve their legacy and promote their spirit, we’re launching the campaign, “What’s Stopping You?” to support the people who disregard the confines of society and carry on doing the things that they like to do.
The Heritage Jersey is an homage to the Dick, Kerr Ladies F.C. We’ve shot photos with this new Jersey in several places in Seoul and it’s available now.’

Thank you for reaching out 🇰🇷

are playing their first match against Iran as we write this and we’ve created an original 2022 World Cup wallchart in collaboration with Glasgow-based designer and Brighton-based illustrator where you can fill the result - hopefully a win.

‘It’s no secret that the 2022 World Cup is fuelled by corruption and abuse, with endless controversies surrounding it. We do not support any of these injustices, however we do believe that the game can and should still be enjoyed for what it is,’ Erik and Holly share.

We wanted the wallchart to have a life beyond the games as a double-sided print so you can choose which side to interact with. On one side lies the wallchart with a dynamic tournament layout. The design takes influence from both traditional and modern Qatari aesthetics, including patterns from Zaha Hadid’s stadium architecture, and a colour palette infused with Qatar’s striking maroon flag and climate warming stripe blue 🇶🇦

On the flipside is an illustration depicting a footballer diving in to ‘save’ the Al Rihla football with his team cheering from the sidelines of the Al Janoub stadium. The water level represents the 25 per cent of English Football League stadiums that are at risk of annual flooding by 2050 due to rising sea levels and extreme weather events (source: , Sustainability in English Football, 2021). The slogan is a quote from Reading FC: ‘We can’t do everything, but we can’t do nothing’ to inspire us all individually and as a community to fight for necessary changes that will impact our future.

This double-sided wallchart is 440mm x 600mm in size and digitally printed by on 120gsm uncoated stock. Each one is £17.50 + P&P and will come folded down in a bubble wrap envelope. Click the link in bio to get yours 📲💥💥💥

Figuring out how to engage with this is uncomfortable and unsettling. Whether you celebrate it, watch it, boycott it, or not, no judgement.

But no one besides storytelling platform and social enterprise , it seems, has really taken the time to empower Qataris to share their football realities directly in their own words and pictures.  In , we collaborated on ‘Dubunking Qatar’s football myths through the lens of local women’ – a piece where three local women photographed their football communities. Their latest initiative? GOALS - an unmissable series that will be on display in an exhibition in Doha for the duration of the World Cup.

founder Matt Barrett tells SEASON zine: ‘In the debates around the World Cup, we rarely hear from people who live and work in Qatar. Over the past year, we have tried to change that. In collaboration with The Sports Creative, Qatar Foundation, and Generation Amazing, we have been working with more than 40 people in Qatar, representing 20 nationalities. From workers to students, artists, and community football coaches. The majority are women.

‘Through analogue and digital photography, video, and their own words, we asked these people to share their own perspectives on football culture in Qatar, community, and life ahead of the tournament. We live in a world where many voices are overlooked, marginalised or silenced. Without the voices of the people living in Qatar, the conversation is incomplete.’

We’re pretty sure that we’re not alone in thinking that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar feels different for a multitude of reasons. We’re currently making and we want document your opinions as well as ours because they are equally important and represent our shared reality. We are also acutely aware that being based in London and Milan shapes our perspective and we want to broaden that, learn, and collate expansive insights.

We’ve put together a survey linked in our bio where you can share your thoughts on the tournament and how you’re feeling about the future of the game without judgement. We also ask you how we should launch issue 10 because we want to plan an event that’s as special and unforgettable as the issue itself.

To say thank you for taking the time to complete our survey by 23:59 on Tuesday 11th October (London time), we’ll send you a free gift.

Thank you so much in advance for participating!

We really appreciate it. 🙏

Love the SEASON team x

21/09/2022

‘Inspired by Brazilian football style and designed to empower females in the football world,’ the Brazilian Milan-based designer created her final graduate collection entitled ‘Joga Bonito SS22’. The results are bold and authentic without feeling gimmicky thanks to the astoundingly wearable silhouettes (the impossible made possible) and imaginative use of football motifs. The play card look book made with a team of women:   (photography),  (post production & styling) and models .e ,  and .rezkana is genius.

‘The most surprising response was the fact that featured my look with the saint Isabel scarf in their September issue in print ... I loved that they chose that look to feature because in the picture I see my saint in the background looking over all of us, blessing us. Next for football fashion? I think there will be a lot of influence from Qatar… I’m not sure there’s going to be so much attention to design or anything for women to be honest. I’d like to see that but I doubt it. I hope they find a space for inclusivity.’ Isabel told SEASON zine.

Zoom into the scarves which have added meanings that Isabel explains below:

Scarf  #1 - The girl from Ipanema goes walking - for a better tomorrow
‘This scarf supports a political movement for the “Indios, Negros E Pobres” ( Indigenous, blacks and poor ). By fusing these colors into the Brazilian flag it is representing injustice and abuse of women and the killing of our forests. Inspired by the mangueira samba movement in Rio in 2019.’

Scarf  #2 - COPAC-AZIL 10
‘This scarf has a half Copacabana print design mixed with the half of Brazil 10. On the other side a chequers design with my MIZZ - Joga bonito SS22 logo. This scarf is very versatile.’

Scarf  #3 - Saint Isabel - it’s time to kick balls
‘I did a drawing of my saint and a sketch of Christ on the Corcovado. The message is meant to be a bit provocative. Supporting the empowerment of females in the football industry. All scarves are unis*x!’

The day after the ’ historic win, caught up with one the legendary former players who set such success in motion for . During the tournament, the 42-year-old was an ambassador for , alongside two current Lionesses and Jill Scott, who recently launched the first ever Women’s Fantasy Football Game.

Beginning her career at Mill Hill, Yankey joined Arsenal aged 16 and made history by becoming the first female professional footballer registered in England in 2000 when she signed for Fulham Ladies. At her clubs Arsenal, Fulham, Birmingham City, and Notts County (plus a brief stint with the New Jersey Wildcats), the breathtaking winger’s goal-scoring prowess led to an incredible trophy haul – including five Women’s Premier League Championships and 11 FA Women’s Cups. Breaking Peter Shilton’s all-time England appearance record with blistering pace and intelligent off-the-ball play, Yankey got 129 caps and scored 19 times for her country between 1997 and 2013.

‘You’d think that you’d be supported with maternal rights in women’s football but you weren’t when I was starting my career. It’s a testament to mothers across the WSL who still play. Mary Phillip, my flatmate and English international, had two young boys whilst playing professionally for Fulham,’ Yankey shares. ‘We used to spend so much time away and now being a mother myself, I am in awe of the work she did to maintain both. We push for so much in women's football but how much do we actually value the mothers in our team?’

14/08/2022

We’ve been thinking more deeply about sustainability and climate change since we made (theme: sustainability) in 2019 and we really rate what is doing. The Brighton-based non-profit is made up sustainability experts, climate scientists and football creatives who are on a mission to build a more environmentally sustainable culture in football.

Founded in 2020, two years on have now collaborated with to create a new Climate Champion Handbook for Nike athletes, educating them on climate change and its relationship with football. Urging and supporting them to use their platform and raise awareness. One of our faves and winner is the first player to be sent the handbook, and it’s also been sent to been sent to , , and .

‘The climate crisis is now and it’s not something we can avoid. If football is going to have a future, the sport needs to use its relations with the world’s biggest brands and companies to ensure they do their part. Sponsors have a responsibility to educate their athletes on the interrelationship between football and climate change - and Nike partnering with Football For Future to produce this handbook is a step in the right direction.’ . Note the the upcycled-by-hand Football For Future x Nike football shirt with patches designed by ILOVEDUST that she’s wearing too in the final picture – players will get it with the handbook.

This is the first time a sports brand is actively educating their athletes on the interrelationship between sport and climate change. Let’s see what happens next.

18/07/2022

This x  series is soo good, taking us all behind the scenes of the tournament through the eyes and pictures of 12 international women's footballers from competing nations. They documented their football lives in recent weeks – final club games, training camps, friendly and the first group stage matches. Here are some highlights and the full list of players involved:

Nicole Billa (Austria), Luna Gevitz (Denmark), Kerstin Casparij (Netherlands), Rachel Furness (Northern Ireland), Fátima Pinto (Portugal), and Gunnhildur Yrsa Jonsdottir (Iceland) have already launched. With Lotte Wubben-Moy (England and our fave), Rachel Rinast (Switzerland), Valentina Giacinti (Italy), Natalia Kuikka (Finland), Kassandra Missipo (Belgium), and Celin Bizet (Norway) to come.

Founder told SEASON zine: ‘In true Goal Click style, this new series for the UEFA Women's Euro takes us truly inside the footballing worlds of top women's footballers as they prepare for one of the biggest tournaments of their lives. By giving players the power, freedom, and control to capture their own story, we get a real and intimate behind-the-scenes view into their preparation with both club and country.

‘The photos take us into places we do not often see - from match day moments to team bonding and relaxation. The powerful stories of the players show how far women's football has developed in Europe since 2019, but they also show us how much more potential there is in the women's game. The women's game is riding a wave, and fans getting to know the players more deeply can only help the game progress even further.’

to our stickers which included Chelsea FC] 's new signing as number 30 , illustrated by .illu .
The sticker accompanied a piece I wrote – 'Raheem's Reaction' to the racist abuse he endured at Stamford Bridge in December 2018. Something the winger later admitted forced him to speak out on the issue.

At the time, I wrote:
‘Then I said, ‘So what did you think about the Raheem Sterling incident?’ During the first half, the 24-year-old was allegedly racially abused by a Chelsea fan as he retrieved the ball from behind the goal. The incident was filmed, circulated and four people were suspended in the aftermath. We’re Jamaican (my mum is Nigerian) just like the England international and I always felt conflicted and frustrated when incidents like this, John Terry’s treatment of Anton Ferdinand, those Chelsea fans on the Paris Metro, Sulley Muntari’s during-match protest and others come to light. My dad replied, as usual, ‘Do you want the surface answer or the deep one?’ Always the deep one.

‘There are racists at Chelsea. But they don’t represent the totality of Chelsea fans and Chelsea club has to do something to stamp it out. As a football supporter for many years [since the 80s], it was more overt back in the bad old days. I remember going to Chelsea as a young lad and being chased down the street by club supporters making racist remarks. Luckily I was much fitter and faster then so I could run extremely fast [chuckles]. Now it’s more subtle because of the cameras around [but] it’s being picked up more,’ he told me.

So why return to the scene of the crime almost four years later? contributor wrote a brilliant article about this on website this week and as all Black and people of colour know, if racism was the only criteria to use when deciding what to go, do, be and see, life in modern society today would be very limited.

Welcome to the Bridge Raheem. Please be better than 🐍 Lukaku 🙏🏾

Italy’s first game might have been disastrous, but our Editor-At-Large’s event in Milan was a success!
Hosted in collaboration with .space with the specific goal to raise awareness around the sport and its social power, Football & Chill was an event designed to celebrate the women’s game at all levels.
The evening featured engaging activities such a painting workshop led by Jessica Bagnall , Anna Deller Yee , Ines Kalliala ; ’s nail bar where guests could choose a design inspired by the official football or their team and a talk panel moderated by Naomi herself.
Great job to France for the strong performance, consistent team work and outstanding result!

Our Story

SEASON is a trailblazing football and fashion platform that launched in London in 2016 to counter the male, pale and sometimes stale state of modern football culture.

A cross between a football fanzine and fashion magazine spanning biannual print issues and original stickers, events, social media, a podcast, and a monthly newsletter, the evolving interplay between football, fashion and personal style is also explored.

We tell stories that showcase, celebrate and empower female fans authentically, while unpacking important issues, emphasising diversity and collaborating with exciting creative talent.
