Population Media Center is built for this moment, and we’re poised to drive change with urgency and purpose. With an unwavering commitment to empowering women and girls, we use the power of media to drive change.

Gender equality and reproductive health, fundamental human rights, live in the hearts and minds of communities. Legal policies and leadership are important, but we honor the power of people to impact the health, rights, and voices of women and girls worldwide—now more than ever.

PMC creates media that educates, inspires, and amplifies the voices most affected and most likely to drive cultural change, ensuring everyone can thrive—today and in the future. We stand strong in our mission to see communities rise, speak out, and act to create a healthier, more equitable, and flourishing world for all.

PMC is excited to share newly published research in the Journal of Communication in Healthcare, led by Dr. Amy Henderson Riley.

This research is a study from Zambia that demonstrates the usefulness and validity of tools for measuring social norms. We are excited for what these results mean both for our work and others in the field of SBC who seek to shift social norms.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re highlighting PMC’s commitment to addressing gender-based violence through our impactful projects.

Breakaway, launched during the FIFA World Cup in 2010 in Peru, is an episodic videogame that uses entertainment-education strategies to explore serious issues like violence against women and girls, bullying, and gender inequality. It aids in fostering vital conversations and awareness.

Our radio show Hilkor, aired in Maithili and featured characters facing difficult choices around child marriage and domestic violence, illustrating the real-life consequences of these issues and promoting dialogue on gender equality.

Additionally, our series broadcasting in Guatemala and the U.S. right now, Toma mi Mano ("Hold my Hand"), is an audio drama in Spanish that addresses social and health topics, including family planning, teen pregnancy, and gender-based violence, while offering support and resources to listeners.

PMC stories come in a variety of formats. We are born creators fueled by passion and guided by purpose. Together, we inspire entire communities to choose a healthier, more equitable, and flourishing world for all. 💜

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Population Media Center (PMC) is proud to highlight the power of entertainment education in addressing critical issues like gender-based violence. Latina women often face unique barriers when seeking help, including immigration concerns, economic dependence, and language challenges. These factors make it even harder to escape violent situations and seek support.

PMC’s Spanish-language audio drama Toma Mi Mano is one of the ways we're working to change this narrative. By collaborating with service partners like the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Love is Respect, we are using storytelling to raise awareness, shift attitudes, and empower individuals to seek help.

Through programs like Toma Mi Mano, we aim to create lasting behavioral change and help survivors feel safe and supported, regardless of their circumstances. Ending gender-based violence requires all of us to take action, not just for a day or a month, but in our everyday lives.

If you or someone you love needs help, reach out to confidential resources available to all, regardless of immigration status. Together, we can make a difference.

Latina women facing domestic violence often encounter several barriers including economic dependence, language barriers and fear their legal status may be impacted.

In honor of World Mental Health Day (celebrated every year on October 10th), PMC is pleased to share a new resource developed, in part, by our Director of Research, Evaluation and Impact, Dr. Amy Henderson Riley prior to coming to PMC.

The UNICEF SBC Toolkit for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) is a package of tools for SBC practitioners and researchers. Mental health needs much more attention globally and we are excited about the tools and resources contained here.

For over a decade, PMC’s Director of Research, Evaluation, and Impact Dr. Amy Henderson Riley has been collecting hundreds of resources on entertainment-education (EE) including journal articles, reports, books, videos, and more. So when the Social Impact Entertainment (SIE) Society asked her if she had any articles on the topic for a new SIE Academic Library , she laughed. “Yes, I have several hundred,” she replied. “I’d be happy to share.”

The purpose of the SIE Academic Library is to host an open-source database on EE and SIE. Often, academic resources are housed behind paywalls and in libraries that are only accessible to currently enrolled institutions. The library is designed to be a living resource that professionals can add to and curate. SIE members can suggest resources such as case studies and impact reports. The objective is to help demystify these closely related disciplines and work together for future entertainment impact goals across silos.

PMC is happy to assist with this project and serve as a top sponsor for the upcoming Impact + Profit Conference , which will be held December 5 & 6 in Los Angeles.
