Echos Of Independence: Exploring Third Wave Indie

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, there are ebbs and flows that shape the soundscape of each era. Just as the first wave of indie marked the British Invasion of the 1960s with bands like The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, and the second wave surged through the 80s and 90s with the likes of Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, Oasis and Blur, a new wave has emerged, carrying its own unique blend of energy and innovation. Enter Third Wave Indie. It’s home, London Town once again.

At the forefront of this movement are bands like Another Day, Cardboard, Soaked., and The Molotovs, each carving their own path in the indie scene with distinctive sounds and compelling narratives. Walthamstow Trades Hall lives as the apex where fans can see the bands live and hear the indie DJs spinning their latest tracks to 100 moshing and backflipping 21 year olds dressed up to the nines in the best mod and indie styles. WOW. RELEASE THIS FRIDAY! 😮 Any hardcore Crass fan will know that the band, fronted by Steve Ignorant, was named after a Bowie lyric “The kids were just Crass”. The lyric oozed across the airways into millions of British kids ears in the 1972 song ‘Ziggy Stardust’. Now fifty years on in 2022, we as fans find ourselves coming full circle with a brand new release.

Limited to just 200 copies and never to be repressed, Steve Ignorant and his band Slice of Life have worked tirelessly on a four track EP of Bowie covers. Finally, we can hear the main man gruff up these glam rock classics and sing the Ziggy Stardust lyrics that inspired so much.

Russ Rankin Joins us for an in depth interview about his time in Good Riddance and his new solo album 'Come Together, Fall Apart'. Good Riddance sprung out of Santa Cruz, California and released seven albums on Fat Wreck Chords before splitting in 2007. Reforming in 2012, they've since released two more records. Led by vocalist Russ Rankin, the band's lineup includes guitarist Luke, bassist Chuck and drummer Sean.
Strongly influenced by the hardcore punk scene, the band are known for their distinctive melodic hardcore sound which is big on the skate punk scene.
Lyrically, Russ is known for speaking out politically and critically analysing American society. He also opens up about personal struggles and mental health on the new album.
