Ghanaian by blood, American by birth - Dr. Edjah Nduom, son of businessman Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has been honoured and  appointed by U.S. President Biden to lead the fight against cancer in a “Cancer Moonshot Program”.

Dr. Edjah Kweku Nduom is a top neurosurgeon in Bethesda, Maryland, United States of America. He specialized in Brain and Spinal Tumor, Pituitary Surgery, and Skull Base.

Edjah was a pre-medical student at Stanford University in California before he went on to obtain a degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is currently researching on how to harness the power of the immune system to fight brain tumors.

His passion for the science world was inborn and as a child, he was always thrilled to get a science kit but his ambition to become a neurosurgeon was inspired by a book "Gifted Hands" an autobiography of neurosurgeon Ben Carson, which was given to him by his aunt.

That inbuilt ambition became a part of him until he graduated from college. Having achieved a lot through much study and experiments, the young surgeon now has his works centered on using the immune system to fight brain tumors.

Malians rally after army calls for protests over ECOWAS sanctions

Malians have taken to the streets en masse after the country’s ruling military called for protests against stringent sanctions imposed by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) over delayed elections.

Thousands of people wearing the national colours of red, yellow and green gathered in a central square in Mali’s capital on Friday for a rally staged by the military government.

People poured into Independence Square in Bamako holding up signs that read, “Down with ECOWAS” and “Down with France”, and singing patriotic songs.

Nelson Boateng; is a Ghanaian eco-entrepreneur, who is leading the way in the secondary usage of plastic waste. He is the founder of Nelplast Eco Ghana Limited, a plastics recycling company that transforms plastic waste into building materials.

Unlike many who recycle plastic waste into bags or other handy products, Nelson uses plastics as ‘concrete’ to build roads and houses.

After his secondary education, he didn’t move straight into any tertiary institution but decided to work for some time. He got a job in a plastic company that made polythene bags, plastic bowls, rubber buckets, among others.

That was the unpopular yet rewarding move Nelson made.

Nelson, as industrious as he has always been, worked with the company for eight years and rose to become the manager. While managing the plastic company, a situation arose between the owners of the company that eventually led to its dissolution.

But for someone who has been interested in entrepreneurship since age 14, it became an opportunity for him to set the stage for his dreams to become a reality.

Nelson decided not to enter any industry other than the one he already knew—plastics. He set up Nelplast Ghana Eco Limited in 2014

He began reading and researching what other things plastics can be used for that will be friendly to the environment. That was when he came up with a unique paste which is a mixture of sand and plastics to make bricks.

Now having discovered what he wants to do, he moved straight into it, and that was the beginning of his to use plastics to build houses and roads.

Driven by the motivation to preserve the environment, Nelson came up with an idea that would be more sustainable and usable in such a way that it will not cause further pollution.

The 36-year-old began the initiative between 2015 and 2016 when there was fierce media debate on the need to ban plastic waste so as to make the city clean. R

He set up a bricks manufacturing center that converts plastic waste into blocks for building. The bricks, Nelson explained, are not made with mortar and have the ability to withstand earthquakes or tremors. According to him, the plastic blocks could also be used as foundation bricks

A MUST READ!

"It’s so beautiful when you get to graduate in the same year with your children!

One of the things I had looked forward to in 2020, was to have pictures taken with my sons in our graduation gowns as we had three graduations in the family in 2020. Unfortunately, this was not possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic!

I am extremely grateful that the Lord preserved our lives and finally granted us the opportunity to have the desired pictures taken.

I graduated with an LLM from University of South Wales, my older son, ‘Tosin with an MSc from Queen Mary University of London and my younger son, ‘Seni BA from University of Leicester (and MSc in another month or two from Loughborough University).

Grateful for outstanding results and look forward to amazing opportunities ahead!"

The 85-Year-old South African artist, decorates cars and houses in an exotic and exceptional way.

Esther Mahlangu was born in 1935 on a farm outside Middleburg, in what is now the Mpumalanga province.

Esther Nikwambi Mahlangu is a woman of many names. “Dr. Mahlangu, Mam Esther, Esther Mahlangu, Gogo, Mother, Daughter of Africa,”

Esther Mahlangu is a South African artist from the Ndebele nation. She is known for her bold large-scale contemporary paintings that reference her Ndebele heritage. Esther Mahlangu was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg, 9 April 2018.

Esther Mahlangu paints bold, geometric canvases inspired by the patterns and palettes of Ndebele house painting and beadwork. Mahlangu's pioneering use of the crafts of her Ndebele people of south-eastern Africa has brought her huge success on the world's art markets. She is globally acclaimed for her bright and bold abstract paintings that are inspired by Ndebele design.

Mahlangu was the first person to transfer the traditional Ndbele style of mural painting to canvas. She painted her geometric patterns on a BMW 525i in 1991, becoming the twelfth artist and first woman to take part in the BMW Art Car Project after figures such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. In the years that followed she exhibited work in countries around the world, from Mexico to Switzerland to Australia.

With the goal of preserving her cultural heritage, Mahlangu started an art school in the backyard of her home in Mabhoko (Weltevreden) in the KwaMhlanga district in Mpumalanga Province. She funded the school herself, and when not travelling for exhibitions she mentors young artists in the traditional style of Ndebele design. Pupils learn how to mix pigments and paint straight lines, freehanded and without sketches, using their fingers or chicken feathers.

Mahlangu’s work is featured in collections in South Africa, the United States, Japan, Germany, France and elsewhere. Her awards include the South African government’s Order of Ikhamanga, silver class, in 2006, as well as the Mpumalanga Arts and Culture Award, an award from the French Ministry of Culture, two awards from Radio Ndebele.....

The army earlier today raided the presidential palace, fighting off his presidential guards and arresting him.

The leader of the military Colonel Doumbouya appeared on TV to "officially" announce the dissolution of Guinea's government
