PRISON PS PS MARY MUTHONI WANTS OVER 300 MINORS LANGUISHING IN OUR PRISONS RELEASED

BY DMK

Prisons Principal Secretary Madam Mary Muthoni has called on the Judiciary to fast track cases involving mothers who have children in the prison facilities across the country.

Speaking in his office in Magereza house Nairobi on Tuesday, Ms Muthoni said it's a very sad affair seen young children languishing in our prison for the crimes they never committed.

" As a mother i am keen to ensure minors grow in a home environment surrounded by their relatives and engaged in childhood activities but not been incarcerated in our prisons for the crimes they never committed", Said Ms Muthoni.

Ms Muthoni added that it's a very sad affair as i make my trips in prisons across the country and seen young children suffering in our prisons.

"Keeping minors in prison exposes them to contracting communicable diseases, as well as living with the stigma that comes with growing up in jail", Ms Muthoni observed

At the same time Ms Muthoni promised fair promotions to the prison officers and also work with the the State Department for Housing tasked with affordable housing to ensure prison officers live in habitable houses. "The project will ensure Prison officers also become home owners" noted Ms Mary Muthoni

Rumuruti Deputy OCS Prosper Wandera stabbed to death during chang’aa den raid in Laikipia West, Laikipia police boss John Nyoike confirms.

A senior police officer was on Thursday evening stabbed to death while conducting a raid at an illicit brew den in Rumuruti, Laikipia County.

Rumuruti Police Station Deputy Officer Commanding Police Station Prosper Wandera was stabbed by a chang'aa brewer and died on the spot during a raid at a chang'aa den at Maundu ni Meri in Laikipia West.

The officer had reportedly gone to conduct a raid at the den in Sossian location within Maundu Ni Meri shopping centre when the 8 pm incident occurred, according to Laikipia County Police commander John Nyoike.

The officer was not armed during the attack.

"It is reported that the officer had received information that there were some jerricans of the illicit brew that were to be delivered at a den in the area. He decided to conduct a raid but was attacked by a brewer," said the police boss.

Mr Nyoike noted that a boda boda rider reported at the Rumuruti Police Station that a passenger he had ferried to the area had been stabbed to death following a confrontation with a chang'aa brewer.

He said a team of police officers led by the area police commander rushed to the scene and found that one of their colleagues had been fatally stabbed on the left side of the chest using a sharp object that was suspected to be a knife.

"The boda boda rider alleged that he carried the deceased alone from Rumuruti town to Maundu Ni Meri shopping centre to make an arrest at the den belonging to Jackline Lepere, where he met resistance from a suspect who was delivering 20 litres of chang'aa," said the police boss.

Mr Nyoike said that a manhunt had been launched to arrest the suspect who is still at large.

HOW far are you willing to go to help those in dire need?

Well, precisely what Mr. James Mwaura would answer, “How about a stroll, or rather, run from Kisumu to Mombasa?’’

Care for a Child’s Heart foundation was founded to reach out to needy families and offer support and treatment to children ailing from congenital heart diseases.

Since its inception, we have sponsored over 260 surgeries locally and abroad and offered support to over 600 families with cardiac care. Our activities and achievements are credited to well-wishers, donors and ambassadors among them, James Mwaura who has been part of our team of volunteers since 2021.

After running different marathons, duathlons and challenges among them the ‘’Migaa Challenge” with “friends of CFACH’’ James, a world renown triathlon athlete suggested a run from Kisumu to Mombasa that would take a couple of days bringing the media, brands and other stakeholders on board to further publicize our cause and help raise money.

As this was discussed and deliberated by the board, we did more athletic charity events like the ‘Havoc Challenge’ Mwanzo Lodge, Naivasha with our friends and partners Team Jasho and Pedal Wise. This was in building momentum for more activities through the year 2022 as we partnered with the Kenyatta National Hospital and a team of international medics within the last quarter of the year to do our first mission to ease our waiting list that has over 300 children from across East Africa that need heart surgeries.

In the homestretch to planning and executing the ‘Run for a Child’s Heart ultra-run’, James gathered a group of elite athletes that would be part of his team for the 906kms run, we also mapped out the route plan with friends and well-wishers coming on board to host the athletes on different stopovers for rest and rejuvenation.

On the 4th of February 2023, kickoff on a chilly Saturday morning in Kisumu, James ran a record 50 miles on day one seeking donors to match every half mile with a donation of USD 100. ‘’A long short’’ is what many would describe this feat but for the CFACH family, this was a labor of love and commitment to the underprivileged children and their families.

Halfway to the finish line our resolve is as clear and James is energized to make this worthwhile to all that have cheered and supported the cause, among them over 300 children with hopeful families on our waiting list. In pulling together, our target is to raise up to kes. 9 million, to cater for specialized cardio-thoracic treatment in Kenya and abroad as we partner with the most reputable organizations and support teams.

We ask you to come on board to make this mission and vision a reality as every voice, every effort, every resource and every coin counts!
