Simangasethu Felix Dludlu professionally known as Wordsmith Felix is a Swazi-born DJ, songwriter and producer. He began his career in 2010 at the age of 10 going for 11 with his best friend and frequent collaborator Devin Dee. In 2009, they started out as rappers downloading instrumentals from Rockitpro.com and other websites. There after, they grew tiresome of getting beats from the internet and sought to make their own and that is when they discovered Fruity Loops 7 in 2010, now known as FL Studio. Wordsmith Felix cites Switch (Rapperswitch) and the Killa G'z as his inspiration to start his music journey after he heard a remix of the 'Nokia' theme song that they covered. 2012 - 2014: Young Smizzy & The Truth Has Arrived Wordsmith Felix wasn't always known by this alias, he first was Young Smizzy or Smizzy which he claims he created from the first few letters of his first name and since he is a great Lil Wayne fan, it made sense to add the "izzy" suffix as Wayne informally entitled himself 'Lil Weezy' With Switch being a huge influence on him, Wordsmith Felix was always keen on working on a project by the rapper whether production wise or vocally and lyrically. Therefore when he changed his form of rap into gospel hip-hop, Young Smizzy followed suit. He went on to record Hands Up as his first single as a gospel artist to a whole project entitled The Truth Has Arrived which he has never released but highly claims that it exists. In early 2015, Young Smizzy announced that he has decided on changing his alias and change his genre into secular hip-hop with the former becoming Wordsmith Felix. When asked, he said the reason for the change was "I wasn't ready to become a devoted gospel rap artist since my practices did not coincide with what I preached." And hence, Wordsmith Felix was born. In this year, he was also given the Rap Artist of the Year award at his former high school, Sifundzani High. 2015 - 2016: Wordsmith Felix & Swazi Jive Signing In 2015, Wordsmith Felix took a hiatus from recording in order to work on his production craft. Even so, he finally got his dream realized when Switch featured him on his second studio album Walking In Faith as a producer, songwriter and a performing act on the song Talkin' Bout. In this year, he performed at the Swaziland International Trade Fair (SITF) among other prestigious events and made a cameo on the song God Is Good by Switch and vocalist M. Seth. He also produced and featured on Straight Outta Sifu which became a theme song for his former high school, which led him and the two other performers, Vinn and Static to be the first ever rap act to perform at the school's glorified Speech and Prize event that was graced by the Honourable Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Swaziland in 2016. In February 2016, Wordsmith Felix announced that he officially signed with Swazi Jive Entertainment which is led and directed by Sakhile Nkambule whom is also the founder. After the signing he worked on Kikwa's debut EP, Ides, with Wordsmith Felix producing Saints + Sides and Fishy. 2017: Sixth Sense & Remixes In 2017, Wordsmith Felix released his debut label single entitled Sixth Sense which features Oriiginelle and Kikwa and production being handle Wordsmith Felix himself with additional production from Donno of Bang!Gae and LO which is the president of Swazi Jive Records. A source claims that he does not like the song because of the lyrics he wrote insulting his father and voicing out that he ponders that he should drop his last name. Following Sixth Sense, Wordsmith Felix was asked to be a part of a remix EP for Una Rams' Nobody and Family Tree's Tshego's Garden by MotherLand X followed by XMPL’s Madala and Hennessy by Tshego in 2018. On July 5, Wordsmith Felix was installed as the brand ambassador for Life Will Always Trip apparel which is a street wear clothing brand established the same year. He also produced Non Existent on Oriiginelle's debut EP, August Dreams, which featured Oriiginelle's long term collaborator Milkiee. In this year he also enrolled as a Production major at the Campus of Performing Arts academy in Pretoria, South Africa.
2019: Going Independent & Becoming a Producer/DJ
In the year 2019, Wordsmith became an indie artist, leaving the Swazi Jive Entertainment stable to have freedom of creativity with the music he makes and produces. He has since reinvented and rebranded himself by becoming a DJ and focusing more on the production and songwriting side of music. His DJ debut was at the Beats in the Basement party hosted at Copa Gau, in Midrand, South Africa on May 30.
