"A Dead Sea's Ripples is about feeling a part of history reimagined. It is also the name of a place I stumbled upon whilst setting out on a pretty mammoth canyon walk. Rising at 4.30 in the morning to climb a steep thousand steps just to get to the base of the canyon rim by sunrise, there I was met with an endless vista of colourful hues watching the shapes and shadows move across the rocky landscape as the sun came to life. Walking along the path, there was this huge rocky corridor that passes through weathered sandstone domes and the entire ground I was walking on was covered in these crazy ripple marks called a 'A Dead Sea's Ripples'. The name is due to the years of weather patterns and lakes from many many years before forming and causing these ripple effects on the sandstone floor.
You're always met with a serene silence in these vast wilderness-like places, hence that feeling of stepping into ancientness. You know that you're standing on land that has been here long long before you ever existed and will continue that way long long after you and as you look out at the amazing vastness below and in front, you realise you're just a whisper in the grand scheme of things ..." - Sophie

Folded Landscapes is out 5th May and tells an important story of climate change, temperature, and time. The creative process mimicked the rising temperature of the piece from glacial to a threatening burn - musicians were recorded in subzero temperatures and the audio master tape was sunburnt on the hottest day in UK history. The heat, moisture, salt and sunlight worked its way into the fabric of the tape, which has been mixed into the finished work, underscoring the work with an unsettling burn that crackles and pops 🧊 🔥

This mesmerising collaboration between Ólafur Arnalds and Ella McRobb was borne from a short sound check video Ólafur had posted a few weeks earlier, with Ella's improvised vocal standing out amongst the many, many other clips posted online.

17th March is World Sleep Day; an annual call to action highlighting the importance of good sleep and sleep health. This year, MKX are delighted to work with Decca Records US, who, in partnership with the World Sleep Society, have released a compilation album featuring 98 pieces of music from a diverse selection of artists from around the world.
