Frame The Extraordinary by Nature Photographer Adege//Dragonflies are fascinating creatures that have been around for over 300 million years. They are known for their agility in flight, able to move in all directions and hover in one spot. Dragonflies have large, multifaceted eyes that give them 360-degree vision, allowing them to spot prey and predators with ease. Additionally, they are excellent hunters, using their strong mandibles to catch and devour insects while in flight. These insects play a vital role in controlling population levels of mosquitoes and other pests, making them beneficial to ecosystems. Overall, dragonflies are remarkable insects with unique characteristics that make them a fascinating subject of study.

Frame The Extraordinary by Photographer Trevor Cole//Ziro in Arunchal Pradesh is home to the Apatani tribes and it is located in an extremely picturesque valley called the Apatani Plateau surrounded by pine-covered mountains. The Apatani tribes themselves are Ziro's greatest attraction. The older men-folk tie the hair in top-knots and tattoo the faces. Apatani women wear wooden nose plugs and tattooed faces. However, new generation of Apatani men and women have stopped this practice of tying hair knot, nose plugs and face tattooing since early 1970s. The villages are beautiful but with the exception of the old people they have odopted western culture. There are some very interesting facts about the 'animism' which is used to exist here but again it has been replaced by Christianity.

Hail storms are a weather phenomenon characterized by balls of ice falling from the sky during thunderstorms. These balls, known as hailstones, vary in size and can range from small pellets to large chunks. The formation of hail occurs when strong updrafts in the atmosphere carry water droplets to high altitudes where they freeze, creating layers of ice around a core. As the hailstones grow larger, the updrafts may no longer be able to support their weight, causing them to fall to the ground. Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, vehicles, and property, and pose a threat to human safety if caught outdoors during a storm. Our first tribal visit was to Ovanguendelengo in a remote village in the Bibala area close to the Leba pass. They were formerly known as the Nguendelengo. The tribes have all reverted to their true names rather than those imposed upon them by the Portuguese colonisers. Few people have seen these people. They live in small groups remotely and are beautiful. They live simply and sustainably and are pastoralists dependent on their goats and cattle. They also grow crops if water is available. They are inextricably connected to their environments in which they live and are reflections of their biophysical zones. Their colourful attire is a wonderful contrast to the semi arid environments in which they live. Come on my photo tour to Southern Angola in September 2024. The agency we use is outstanding. The day of the Bull Jump the women strap rows of bells to their legs and perform customary dances. After the dances and before the Bull Jump all the members of the celebration eat sorghum, drink beer and coffee which the bull jumper's family provide to all the guests.

Even though it snowed, rained and was sunny at the same time, the shoes and the jacket kept me happy. That summer I definitely returned for more hikes and climbs!

South African Penguins migrated to Africa twice around 30 million years ago, thanks to Atlantic Ocean currents.
