Triple R’s Album Of The Week is ‘Identity’, the latest album from Black Rock Band of Jabiru in West Arnhem land. The wide-ranging record reflects the strength and breadth of the band’s songwriting: from the blues and country-infused single “If It Was Me”, to the string-led ballardry of “Moriah”, the reggae-driven grooves of “Yibengwarrbawon”, and the blistering rock riffs of “Highway 21”.

Discussing ‘Identity’, lead singer Richie Guymala says, “We created the album to encourage First Nations people around Australia and the world to stick together. This is building a bridge between the two different worlds that we live in.”

Black Rock Band address themes of racial and climate justice throughout the album, alongside calls to protect and maintain the land, language and culture of First Nations people.

Complexe, inventif sont les deux mots qui qualifient le mieux ce deuxième album des Australiens de Scenariot. Ce second opus à la créativité ambitieuse nous invite à un voyage dans les mondes derrière les mondes… Basé sur les expériences de vie de son leader Michael Totta.
L’album commence par la plage titulaire, «Worlds Within Worlds», et d’emblée deux choses apparaissent: la filiation, (pour ce morceau), à Rush, et, ce qui sera valable pour tout cet enregistrement, l’énorme travail de la section rythmique composée de JP Glovasa à la basse et de Greg Stone à la batterie; ce dernier n’a d’ailleurs rien à envier à Portnoy ou Neil Peart.
Album plein de surprises, de références, comme sur «Fade Away», ballade où le timbre de la voix rappelle Neil Young, ou encore «The vortex», qui plaira aux nostalgiques des années 90, vu les influences non cachées pour The Smashing Pumpkins et Garbage.
En résumé, artistiquement, cette album explore un spectre musical très varié, alliant progressif et métal-prog. Ce second essai de Scenariot d’une explosion de sons, de textures, d’énergie et d’idées est comme l’équivalent sonore d’une toile picturale exposant mille couleurs subtiles.
Laissez-vous guider, vibrer par l’ambiance de chacun des titres qui composent cet album indispensable dans votre discothèque progressive. Une surprise, un must!

Melbourne production duo ‘The Cloud Chamber’ have released a remix of Sugarbone by Matt Tonks from the 2006 Synaesthesia album, courtesy of Hit 66 Records.

Citing influences from Peter Gabriel’s “Digging in the dirt’ and Led Zeppelin’s ‘Kashmir’ with the introduction of a sitar in the middle eight, this song begins with a single guitar riff and vocal line that intensely builds over the duration of this 5.37 minute track
