FRAGRANCE FOR BEGINNERS SERIES

Fragrance Layering - what is it?

This is a process of applying perfumed body products (body wash, moisturiser, spritz) in the same scent to enhance the perfume and make it last all day or combining multiple perfumes or scented products to create a unique and personalized scent experience.
Instead of wearing a single fragrance, you can apply different scents in a deliberate and strategic way to create something unique

layering allows you to express your creativity and tailor the scent to your preferences creating a unique signature scent that is distinctively yours. You can achieve this by combining perfumes, body lotions, oils, or other scented products that complement and enhance each other.

By following these Fragrance layering steps the scent becomes part of your skin, instead of just sitting on top of it.

1. Cleanse

This is a must in any body care routine, begin with a scented body wash or soap. Most perfumes have a bodycare range, pick your fragrance and use it's body care range in your routine.

2. Moisturise

Moisturise to nourish the skin and lock in hydration. Its best to moisturise when the skin is slightly damp after showering.
The scented moisturiser provides the perfect scent base as perfume hangs on moisturised skin better and this will help to enhance your perfume once applied.

Tip: buying scent body products from the same range can be expensive - I usually use a non scented lotion or cream and spritz the perfume I'm using that day before applying to the skin.

3. Fragrance

Finish off your routine with a spritz of your perfume - a perfume mist or spritz all over your body and the EDP or Parfum on pulse points. ( pulse points are warm areas like wrists, neck, inside of elbows, and even behind your knees. Avoid rubbing your wrists together, as it can dull the top notes of the scent and change the way it smells.)

Fragrance Wardrobe

Is a collection of scents used to fulfill different needs at different times, allowing you the options to change scents depending on your mood or occasion.
The idea of a fragrance wardrobe is like when you are deciding on your outfit for the day, you pick out what to wear based on a number of factors, the weather, the event, the time of day, the mood you are in and the mood you want to create.

In simple terms, it means you're going to need at least four fragrances to cover Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring.
-Summer go for vibrant and citrusy scents
-Autumn go for warm and spicy fragrances
-Winter go for cozy, sensual scents
-Spring go for floral and fruity scents to match the freshness of the season.

FRAGRANCE FOR BEGINNERS SERIES

Signature Scent.

This is a perfume that you wear everyday and associated with, it becomes a part of you reminding people of your presence.

Choosing a signature scent can be a daunting task as there are a gazillion fragrances to choose from.

But if you must have a signature scent you must choose one that's versatile, one that can take you from dawn till dusk and through hail and thunder.It should be light and sweet enough to use for summer, spring and day time, but also deep enough for autumn, winter and night time use.

In short your signature perfume should be something that can be worn in:

1- different moods and settings/ occasion ( work settings, special occasions, dinner dates, running errands etc)

2- weather/ season ( summer, autumn, winter and spring)

3- time of day ( day or night )

Some scents are too heavy for day time use especially in hot weather and closed work spaces they become suffocating.
While some scents are too light to transition from day to night and into the colder season.
And some scents are too daring to be worn casually while running errands or going to bed.

If I had to choose I would choose Armani Prive Cuir Noir - this smells like skin

FRAGRANCE FOR BEGINNERS SERIES

The world of perfumery is very interesting. Fragrances are categorized into families. But for this post, I have only listed the most popular and easy to understand. Hope this will make the ART of layering easy, start with one or two scents until you're confident to experiment with more different scents. Have fun creating your own signature scent.

GOURMAND OR EDIBLE PERFUMES are made up of sweet, edible notes of vanilla, caramel, cotton candy, chocolate, coffee, honey, cognac and many other tooth-aching ingredients. Just to give you an idea, most Juicy Couture fragrances fall into this category

FRUIT PERFUMES usually burst out with ripe, fresh edible fruity notes that feature the scent of fruits other than citrus, such as peach, black currant, mango, passion fruit, and others. eg DKNY Be Delicious.

FLORAL PERFUMES ( good example ELIZABETH ARDEN) are perfumes that have notes of one or several kinds of flowers, such as roses, jasmine, and lavender.

Floral notes are categorized according to their intensity and include:

– Light florals: These types of florals, such as lilies and freesias, are subtle and delicate.

– Medium florals: These types of florals, such as roses and violets, have a moderate intensity.

– Heavy florals: These types of florals, such as jasmine and tuberose, have a strong intensity.

It has the right amount of sweetness and not overwhelming

It's not a screamer but you can certainly notice it, it's I deal as a bed time scent too.

Good for days when you just want to be low key, I get about 4hrs when I am out an about.

The love of fragrances is going to send me to my grave early I swear. The collection is growing bigger and bigger everyday that it's now a chore to deciding on what to wear on a daily basis.
I have decided to arrange my fragrances in alphabetical order so that everyday I just pick what ever is next.
I wish I could just have 1 signature scent like a normal person, but I think that would be boring you need variety in life 🤣

If I book into an Air BnB property I will be expecting a home away from home experience.

Following my previous experience here are some of the essentials for Air BnB hosting:

1. *Provide accurate photos*: Show the space honestly, including any flaws.

2. *Leave a welcome guide*: Offer local tips, Wi-Fi info, and emergency contacts.

3. *Keep the space clean*: Ensure a tidy and hygienic environment.

4. *Offer amenities*: Provide essentials like towels, toiletries, and kitchen basics.

5. *Don't enter the property or space without permission*: Respect guests' privacy.

During my recent travels I stayed in a number of Air BnB's, this was my first time using such kind of accomodation. I must say I was a bit traumatized and this has put me off using Air BnB's again in the future. None of the properties matched the advertised photos. It really felt like the Wish purchases versus what you actually get😏

In one of the properties which was a very tiny 2 bed only had one working oil heater and this was in the middle of winter. The washing machine and dryer was not working despite being advertised as having these.

The other one, even though the property was spacious the shower was broken and had to hold the shower head and one of the toilets in the house was overflowing.

For the life of me I didn't understand why a 6 bedroomed property which was advertised as sleeping 12 plus people only had 3 teaspons, 4 teacups and plates, 2 water glasses. No pots and pans, dishing spoons or any other cutlery.

If you have ever stayed in an Air BnB, where you satisfied with your stay? Was it as expected and homely?
