Damata is a Norwegian trio made up of Torstein Slåen, Karl Erik Horndalsveen and Ola Øverby who’s music spans the loose territories of ambient electronic, improvisation, hip hop and modern jazz. In the midst of recording their third album - having released their previous two on the Norway’s own seminal Dugnad Records - they scurry through a sea of influences including Alice Coltrane, Flying Lotus, Alabaster Deplume, Frank Ocean as well as their own music and much more. Norwegian songwriter Tom Roger Aadland reminisces over past moons during his student days when his record collection was aghast with a flux of music by artists including Villa-Lobos, Piazolla, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Stravinsky among other such giants. In this mix he peppers these influences with an assortment of his own music spanning numerous albums over a decade, delivered in his own seamless flow on mood, words and music.

In this mix Gro-Marthe Dickson takes on a musical journey through the wonderfully hearty, raw country that is Scotland focussing on her ancestral routes and, specifically, her Grannie Christina C. Dickson.
Since passing in 1958, G-M has only met her via family pictures and memories. Her Grandad never spoke of her while he was alive, and G-M regrets she was too unknowing to ask. They met and married during the WWII; he, my Grandad, a Norwegian sailor (and whaler) and she, Grannie, working in a brewery in Glasgow. They moved to Norway after the war. This mix reflects their story.
These are a few of the songs G-M connects to what memory she has made up of her Grannie, but also “her” Scotland, getting to know the quart Scottish part of herself. The music spans from sad via empowering to humorous, and from old to new tunes, singers and musicians. G-M is happy to tell you that the journey goes on - there must be a reason she cries when she hears bagpipes.. Thank you for listening!

SVS is excited to present a beautifully constructed mix by Norwegian singer and songwriter Bergill - aka Åshild Bergill Hagen. Whilst also a versatile performer spanning a flux of genres, Bergill is a songwriting project comprised of Hagen's own compositions offering an observant, intimate take on contemporary life. This is a first for SVS where all songs solely feature Norwegian text with a strong sense of identity from these shores. We hope it mesmerises listeners as much as it has us... we remain spellbound!
