When I visit a farm, I like to ask the same questions that a consumer would ask. For instance, I ask how the soil is prepared, where the seeds come from, and what kind of fertilizer is used. Additionally, I can be a little nosy with personal questions. Fortunately, the people I meet have been very gracious, showing me their family history, belongings, and photographs that hold special meaning to them. These pictures aren't just objects; they're memories, records, and sources of inspiration during both good times and bad. The impact of these memories keeps them motivated.

(notes: the pic in the post doesn't belong to any family in Island Farm Market Stories; it is used only to illustrate the experience during my filming)

This ancient camera may be old, but it's still got it where it counts! I quickly discovered its reputation as the best camera for skateboarding back in the day. Sometimes, old-school has its own charm!Welcome to my toolbox!!

Living Soils Farm was in season 1, which took place two years ago. I am still grateful for their openness and support to the Telus Storyhive Voice 2.0 project. Now, I am working on Voice 3.0 Island Farm Market stories season 2, and have applied to Voice 4.0 next year, season 3. There are so many farmers on Vancouver Island; the more I get to know them, I want to document them all. Each farm has its own unique voice and story. Whether it's their passion, exploration, inheritance, side jobs, therapeutic activities, or giving back to the community, they all have something special. I can't wait to share these stories with you all. Stay tuned; the anticipation for season 2 is building up!

"The greatest change we need to make is from consumption to production, even if on a small scale, in our own gardens. If only 10% of us do this, there is enough for everyone. Hence the futility of revolutionaries who have no gardens, who depend on the very system they attack, and who produce words and bullets, not food and shelter." - Bill Mollison

Spencer, the blessed goffin cockatoo and marvelous cheerleader, received foster care from Tamera and Eric, which I greatly appreciate since I couldn't watch over him a year back.
Thank you Tamera and Eric for your loving and carring heart! Also thank you to Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary for the understanding. Seeing Spencer in a great care makes my heart sing, often I think about aren’t we all lucky? ☘️🌸❤️ 🙏

I've imagined there has to be the easiest way to animate a still picture because all programs seem to be difficult to learn quickly. Here, it comes with AI with one click. 🫢😍

AI will write better stories, tailored to individual preferences with the help of emotion-detecting cameras and databases.

When Sofie doesn’t talk, I can’t recognize her because she looks like the same with other American Robin. she’s just a common bird, who lives on Vancouver Island. To me, she’s a special bird who has shared her babyhood with. Last month when I played a 10 days continuous Taichi with Dale on P.I, Sofie came to watching almost everyday. Dale told me that the bird on the ground stared at me for a quite while when we were playing.

Remember Norm Lowden
I didn't know Norm well, even though he lived only one street away. I could always see the light in his window from our backyard. As a student at VIU, I used to rush through the bushes daily to take a shortcut to the Mud Bay. I would follow an invisible path through an empty lot behind our house.
One day, I noticed that the path was clear, unlike usual, when tree branches would dangle at my shoulder height. I had to push them away to get through. Looking at Norm's window, I saw him standing there with a warm smile. I realized he had kindly helped clear the path without being asked.
Later, when Sandra, Moira, Anne, and I walked around the island, we would often shout out under Norm's window as we passed by. I asked Sandra why we did that, and she said that we needed to check on him because he lived alone and had some health issues. Although I was initially concerned that we might disturb Norm's sleep, he seemed to enjoy the attention. We often looked for his face showing up from the window."There he is!”A small face but a big smile. We waved, shouted, smiled, and went ahead.
We stopped going down that street after an article about our daily routine was published, and Sandra had a fall that affected her walk.
It turned out that Norm had grown accustomed to and expected us to greet him. He once asked, "I haven't seen you guys passing by for a long time. Is Sandra okay?"
Before COVID, Sandra and I planned to make a little documentary about Norm when I was looking for a project about an interesting person. Little did I know, "Norm was a proud member of the island's Fire Department for 18 years and was very proud of coaching the island's inaugural baseball team, the Protection Island Pirates."
I was thinking of Norm as we celebrated his remarkable life and the memories family and friends shared a few days ago. I regret not documenting Norm's stories, but his family probably captured many memories and pictures that will keep his spirit alive. Rest in peace, Norm!
( I picked this picture at John Gogo and Sons House Concert because he appeared happy and chatty in his white outfit. It makes sense that he was a community person)

Remember Mike Lamoureux

Back in 2012, I was on the ferry, back and forth,
Between Vancouver and Protection Island of course.
Zoey, our grade 12 girl, spilled the beans,
About the Coolest person on P.I., if you know what I mean.

Mike Lamoureux, that's the name she dropped,
The friendliest, gentlest, and kindest, she just couldn't be stopped.
She wanted us to meet, but back then, no chance,
Curiosity sparked a mysterious circumstance.

A few years later, P.I. became my full-time den,
Zoey reintroduced Mike, and that's when
With a smile, he'd raise his arm, smooth and slow,
"Lady first!" he'd say, letting the politeness flow.

Not a one-time thing, but every dang time,
"Mike, you go first," I'd say, a rhythm so fine.
"Jessie, it doesn't work that way," he'd retort,
Wisdom in his words, a friendly sort.

"On P.I., we've got groups, all kinds,
Lions, Neighborhoods, Museum, and various groups,
bound by invisible lines.
but when things happen, we roll together,
We work things out in any weather.” He said.

A decade's encounters on the ferry, on the road,
In the hall, on Mud Bay's dock, stories flowed.
About Suzanne, about Cedar, about his work
Chats and laughs, memories to store.

"Mike, are you a workaholic, work every day?
Any Hobbies? When will you unwind?"
"I enjoy work, I do, and stones are my play,
Retirement? Nah, not my thing," he'd say.

Late this summer, our paths did meet,
"We miss you on P.I.," he said, sweet.

"In town most of the time, odd jobs, studies, and such,
Busy and happy, life's got a good touch."
"How 'bout you, Mike? What's the deal?"
"Sold my company, retirement's real."

"Retirement? Mike, that's something new,
Tell me about the new owners, tell me
about your plan
Glad things are going smoothly, and you’re happy
With the new owner,” I said.

Unfortunately, I don’t have many visual records.
As Mike and Susanne, private peeps
But I have a cameo when he supported the P.I players
Serious humour on his lips.

At the shoot's end, Susanne inquired with cheer,
"Did you have fun?" Mike's eyes a love frontier.
I burst into laughter, couldn't help but delight,
Mike, you'll be remembered as an inspirational light.

For the little things, the joy you'd disperse,
Thanks for making life better
You've nudged me to be a better version,
Mike, gratitude for your precisely small acts that caused
numerous joyful conversions.

Someday, I'll tell the little kids about the amazing folks I met through the Island Farm Market Stories. There were farmers, bakers, artists, and artisans who left an incredible impression on me. They taught me so much and kept me entertained from time to time.💕🙏✍️
