As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Loved my years doing Performing Arts Video Production but will officially close 2nd20 Productions on December 31st, 2024. Felt good that I was able to turn all my wonderful clients over to my excellent colleague so nobody was left having to look for a replacement videographer.

Tons of favorite memories over the years, too many to count. Here are a few captured stills as favorites. If you're in one of these shows, you and your show remain in my heart, along with many other great shows, performers and clients. Thank you everyone!

Peninsula Friends - You still have this weekend and next to see this amazing production of Allegiance at Palo Alto Players, the story of the Japanese Americans that were interned during WWII. Runs thru May 8th and for those who can’t see this wonderful cast in person, you can watch the show taping I did via their streaming option next weekend. Enjoy!! Due to copyright restrictions, I rarely get the chance to share full-show tapings that I do. Luckily here is one I can share to give an idea how I like to shoots performances - taping a rehearsal, planning my shots, shooting one or more shows, then the edit. This was a production called The Water Project by David Popalisky of the dance department at Santa Clara University. Tricky part was mixing dance, narrator and graphics on two huge screens. Amazing how cosmic karma works. Before starting performing arts video production full time in 2008, I’d shoot videos of performances anywhere and everywhere I could to practice some new video editing software Apple was introducing called Final Cut Pro and iMovie. Often this was on vacation trips starting in 2000 where I’d be at resorts with casual theater shows, musicians, circus acts and more.

In archives I have around 10 terabytes from 10 years of those shoots and edits. On two of those vacations to Sonora Bay Mexico (2000 and 2001), I happen to have footage shot of other guests on vacation singing in audience participation shows. First was of a young teenager on vacation with her mom. Second was of a musician couple in their early twenties that were on vacation and brought their guitar for casual practice away from everybody while there. Never thought our paths would cross again at the time.

Next week I have tickets to see one perform Thursday in Livermore and the other perform Friday in Santa Cruz as their national tour schedules happen to be nearby at the same time. Amazing how the world works.

Thanksgiving eve - after waiting a few years for Todd English’s Olives to reopen in their new Las Vegas location at the Virgin Hotel, was finally able to visit. What could be better than finding the same amazing food and drink as well as discovering that night they had beautiful live music. Even had a chance to thank Todd English in person for 15 years of great family visits & memories at his previous location by Bellagio.

Only had my phone on me for taking videos, but caught a few clips between bites. Thank you Nieve Malandra (vocals) and Todd Simon (piano/sax) for your wonderful live music. If you’re ever in Vegas and want a break from the Strip, I highly recommend both.

For theatre fans, if you’re lucky you’ll find a show with an amazing cast that both brings back memories and gives you new perspectives. Even better if scenes give you chills or bring a tear to your eye. After seeing this show five times I can honestly say this show did all the above for me. If you’re in the Bay Area, the show runs this weekend and next. If you’re not in the area or not yet ready to attend live theatre, my taping of the Opening Night performance will be streamed Sept 30 - Oct 3. Highly recommended.

Enjoying finally shooting musical theatre again onstage this past weekend and this memory from 10 years ago pops up today.

Coincidentally Jomar is in both shows and I happened to tell him after opening night this past Saturday how special it is shooting new shows with cast members from Company One 10-15 years ago.
