Enhancing Student's Safety through Fire Drill and Earthquake Drill

On April 18, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., Jesus Good Shepherd School (JGSS) held a fire drill in the school's open field, headed by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) team and with the participation of the Shepherdines, faculty, and staff. The purpose of this drill is to ensure the safety of everyone involving potential hazards while in the school community.

F02 Alfred B. Alcantara and his team facilitated the orientation on the proper procedures in using a fire extinguisher, or the T.P.A.S.S. (twist, pull, aim, squeeze, and sweep). They also give reminders about fire safety in the school community and the appropriate action in case of fire, such as immediately calling the fire department hotline [(046) 416-3032] and calmly heading towards the evacuation area (the school's open field).

For the demonstration, Sir Alfred asked five volunteer students to put out the flames in the fire pit using the fire extinguisher, and another two students using a water hose.

Shepherdines, faculty, staff, and members of the BFP gathered for a group photo in front of the Mary Mother of the Good Shepherd Chapel as the program finished at 9:00 a.m. Through the cooperation of the JGSS community, the fire drill was carried out smoothly and efficiently.

On the next day, April 19, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., the JGSS community actively took part in an earthquake drill to get ready for any seismic catastrophes.

JGSS community practice "duck, cover, and hold" to protect oneself during an earthquake while heading to the evacuation area (Gate 1 and Gate 2).

Shepherdines kept a serious demeanor during the training, keeping quiet and affirming prayers for protection.

"Being prepared is our shield against uncertainty," a Shepherdine said.

On the 3rd day of April 2024, the Grades 10 and 11 along with Sr. Jessica Aglavia, SJBP celebrated Easter Sunday in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter Sunday is a religious Christian holiday that is globally observed and marks the third day after Jesus was crucified when he rose from the dead.

The students were tasked to express their creativity as they decorated each of their own eggs with colorful designs and unique artistries.

The activity began at the start of the egg hunt with students roaming around the senior high school building in search of the hidden eggs, and ended once all the eggs were found.

As Easter Sunday marks our calendar, let us all come together and give this special day to our savior, Jesus Christ.

๐€๐›๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ž, ๐๐š๐›๐š๐ž!

March marks International Womenโ€™s Month, a time to honor womenโ€™s contributions, struggles, and triumphs globally.

The roots of female liberation date to the early 20th century, gaining momentum with the historic International Womenโ€™s Day on March 8, 1911.

Since then, International Womenโ€™s Month has become a platform for advocacy, empowerment, and solidarity, showcasing progress in gender equality while addressing challenges like gender-based violence, wage gaps, and underrepresentation in leadership. From early pioneers to contemporary activists, numerous women have paved the path for societal change, inspiring future generations to strive for a more inclusive and equitable society.

This International Womenโ€™s Month, under the theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," is a poignant reminder of womenโ€™s vital role in driving societal advancement and the imperative to channel resources and support toward their empowerment.

As we honor womenโ€™s past and present achievements, letโ€™s renew our commitment to fostering a world where every woman and girl can thrive. By amplifying their voices, breaking down barriers, and advocating environments where women can thrive, we accelerate progress toward gender equality and an inclusive society, ensuring a brighter, more equitable future for all.

JGSS Blessed Timothy Giaccardo Hall

A first of its kind, on March 6, 2024, JGSS held its first Humanities and Social Sciences seminar for its Senior High School Department in the hopes of boarding their minds in the world of Philippine politics. Organized by the Senior High School HUMSS students and teachers, Sr. Jessica Aglavia, SJBP, and Ms. Wency Provido, LPT. The seminar was held inside the Blessed Timothy Giaccardo Hall and extended its experience to the upcoming level who were about to fill the same shoes of the current senior high students, the Grade 10 students.

A complex topic such as politics requires a certain individual experienced in that field to fully grasp and explain; who better than a person serving as a public servant to join students and teachers to discuss her knowledge and experience in the world of politics.

Judge Maureen D.R. Lontoc Inciong, a UP Diliman graduate who received a Bachelor Degree in History and studied Law at San Beda College. She is the presiding judge for the Cavite Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 2, City of Dasmarinas.

From 8:20 am to 10:35 am, Judge Maureen made a simple yet educational seminar, giving us more information about the power of government, and with students actively participated to the seminar, it was an open presentation with opinions both from the speaker and students.

She also focused on talking about the system of government, specifically our country's government, saying that we should know who will lead our country better and more fairly.

In addition, she talked about the importance of knowing our government and how their choices affect us. During the last part of her seminar, she asked a question-and-answer activity, giving the students the chance to understand more about good governance.

The seminar will serve as an eye opener and a reminder that we should care more about government roles and who to choose to govern our country.

"A country will not move forward without a good government to lead."
