When was the last time you really appreciated a glass of water?

This village is one of many in Uganda which finally, in February of 2024, received its very first clean water well. Previously these people had to walk a long distance to a dirty water hole in the forest and carry water by hand back to their homes…Several times a day. Sickness and disease was common as well as dangers from the forest itself.

We were told that we were going to film a well dedication ceremony. That’s literally all the details we were given. No word about what a Ugandan dedication ceremony would look like. Being the Americans that we are, we assumed a very formal speaking event. Possibly a podium and some dignitaries giving speeches. When we rolled up to the site, it was almost pure pandemonium. Drummers, dancers, people of all ages throwing the biggest party I’ve ever seen. All previous ideas went out the window and I went into a purely instinctive filming approach. I leaped out of our vehicle and just started shooting. My only thoughts were “never stop moving” and “just BE HERE”. I desperately wanted to convey the sense of energy that I was experiencing in the moment. Literally for most of these shots I never even looked at the viewfinder. I just kept moving with the crowd and pointing the camera in any direction that seemed good. Hoping and praying that the autofocus was able to grab onto anything close to a good subject. The woman in the blue dress came out and started leading praise and worship in the most energetic and animated style ever so I just started circling over and over and moving the camera up and down as I kept moving.

There would be no retakes.

The party raged for about 10-15 minutes. Followed by the assumed customary speeches. Then the official opening of the well. One of the visiting guests began cranking the pump and the water began to flow. Again, pure pandemonium. All the children of the village collectively rushed the gushing water and withi

I've never yet had a reason/opportunity to rig a car with a camera mount, but I've always wanted to. Today I decided to give it a try just for the experience. I don't have "actual" car mounting hardware so I made do with what I do have. Here's the results. Photos of the rigging are in the comments.
It still seems surreal to think that I got to sit and talk with an actively serving 3 star general and ask him questions about some of the most difficult things in his life.
Full Length episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slq_s7TSOFg
After going to law school, David Bellon realized that it wasn't what he wanted. He wanted to be pushed and tested. He joined the Marines, served a full contract and was ready to get out...Then 9/11 happened and changed the course of his life.
Now currently in his 4th decade of service, Lt General David Bellon shares his story as an infantry officer leading TASK FORCE TARAWA and later TASK FORCE SCORPION through intense urban combat in the early days of the insurgency in FALLUJAH, Iraq and KANDAHAR, Afghanistan. He recounts the emotional and psychological toll of that experience, regaining his mental footing and leading new Marines through the difficulties of subsequent deployments.
On Assignment for @American Warriors.
I always feel like whatever project I’m currently working on is my best or favorite or coolest or…whatever… but this one definitely hits a little bit harder than most. Maybe that’s because of the big gun… maybe it’s the age bracket of the story, maybe it’s the multi-faceted human interest of the story... I’m honestly not sure. But whatever it is, I hope you’ll go watch the full story on www.Americanwarriors.com. I think it’s worth it…

This was one of those interviews where I thought I knew what I was getting into because Jim is my friend and I’d heard him tell a few little anecdotes here and there, but when I got him to tell his whole story, I was blown away. He’s done some really cool stuff and I’m excited for this episode to release tomorrow. It’s a nonstop thrill ride. Check it out at www.americanwarriors.com

Fixing it in Post
While filming a virtual event for @bendfilmfestival we ran into a situation where there was some mysterious electrical audio interference. (Oh the joys of on-location recording.) We couldn’t find the source during the shoot so of course we had to fix it in Post. We’re pretty darn happy with the result. What do you think?
Oh can we all just agree that this young lady @quinn.raynak absolutely slayed this performance! What talent!

Throwback Thursday: Oregon Adaptive Sports
With all this snow we're getting it seems appropriate to re-share this Thursday throw back from the winter of 2017-2018.
Episode 3 of 3. (See episodes 1 & 2 in my previous posts.)
This was my first real documentary film project. A 3 part short series for the awesome folks over at Oregon Adaptive Sports. They wanted to make a series of short films highlighting their adaptive winter sports program that was different from the typical tear-jerker type of films in the adaptive sports world. They wanted to stoke the fire for adventure and the universal love of playing in the snow.
Regardless of ones level of physical ability, everyone loves to get out and play in the powder.
Big thanks to my man Michael Belardi who came all the way from Scranton, PA to shoot this with me. 🎥👊
Chainsaw Art Festival
I've been so bad at posting my video work this year. I think mostly because our internet is really slow and I don't like waiting for uploads...
Here's a piece that I did for 1859 Magazine back in June of this year. All handheld footage.
Journey Together
I've been looking for more ways to practice and hone my skills as a cinematographer when I'm not on an actual client job. So I've decided to start making cinematic home-movies. I get to practice making beautiful scenes and creating short films while documenting our life at the same time.
Oh, and if anyone wants a cinematic home-movie for your family, send me a message.

According to UNICEF, there are over 140 million orphans in the world. A number half the size of the entire population of the United States with an average age of 5 years old and primarily living in poverty stricken countries. It’s an enormous problem facing every part of the globe, but the solution lays not just in the hands of governments and nations, but in the hands of individuals willing to get involved and have the faith to believe that together we can make a difference.
One child at a time, one FAMILY at a time. YOU can help.
