This video features Athena Mari Asklipiadis, who founded Mixed Marrow. Below is a post she shared for #TeamKrissy Day.
Hey everyone, we need your help for mixed patient and friend Krissy whom Jeff and I worked on Mixed Match with.
After about 10 years, she is finally having to proceed with a transplant-- she was very lucky with her MDS disease not progressing till now. She is one of the major reasons I started Mixed Marrow in 2009 since her story resonated with me so much.
She is Japanese/Caucasian and in the 10 years of her search, she was never able to find a full matched donor. She is proceeding with a half match from her brother through new medical technology. But the fact she could never find a match from the public registry speaks volumes about how we must all work together to diversify it and bring more awareness forward.
