Re: Council A Session Agenda Item 34 for TODAY, August 8, 2024
To: Mayor and Council:
A) No: The Ethics Review Board has been ineffective because it has historically refused to take cases based on impartiality but have continued to show favoritism and bias based on politics.
No: The Charter does not need updated language. When the Charter was originally written in 1951, men and women were better educated and exercised better English and grammar than the current residents of San Antonio. We do not need to have “gender neutral” language. He and she is accurate and descriptive where’s as they or them is vague. One person by definition cannot qualify as a family.
C) City Manager was recently decided in 2018.
D) No: City employees have no business participating in local political activity and tax-payer funding is unacceptable. If you want your match the State statute on this issue then you should want to match the State on its Referendum Initiative as well (that you fought in 2018 as Prop A).
E) No Pay: Mayor And Council should not be paid salaries at Al and certainly do not deserve a pay raise that almost doubles their pay. It’s out of line with SA residents and when you pay them the government grows bigger. We need a small government to allow freedom not bigger to control us more. Give your time then get out and go back to being a regular citizen.
F) No Long Terms: Council Members need to stay close to the residents and the best way to do that is to face election every 2 years similar to the Texas House of Representatives and the US Congressmen. These are the People’s Houses as Cory Council should be as well.
Conclusion: Vote AGAINST Item 34.
