It's been a while, but we are back with a new release... "Sun Casts A Shadow" by Emily Fairlight / The Shifting Sands.

Together Emily Fairlight and The Shifting Sands’ Mike McLeod have captured a special moment; two songwriters, two voices, two guitars; sounding like they’re “playing in your lounge.”

Emily: “I haven’t done much collaborative work, so was pleased to fall into this album almost by mistake. The songs’ raw, ‘stripped-back’ form is the sound of some of my favourite artists, so we hope you’ll enjoy the songs in their purest state.”

Mike: “We never meant it to result in an album. We went to record a song or two and got on a roll. After making heavily layered sonic pop albums with the Sands, where I’d hide behind my songs with layers of guitars and synths and bury my vocals, I wanted to get past that. This album sounds like playing in your lounge, a complete work that captures a special moment.”

"Sun Casts A Shadow" is released on 45 rpm 12” LP and CD on 8 July (NZ). The album is available to pre-order now via Fishrider Records' Bandcamp: https://fishriderrecords.bandcamp.com/ and in stores in NZ from 8 July . Death And The Maiden joined the Black Eye roster very recently. Hailing from Dunedin the unique sound of this three piece was “originally born from a desire to make dance music that wasn’t afraid to be sad” The Quietus had this to say about their most recent album Wysteria. “Beautiful, scary and endlessly evocative. It can be whatever you want it to be..” The band are currently finishing up a new album.
