Sundays 2-4PM ET // wnyu.org
On Bluesberry Jam, acclaimed hosts DJ Greg (Greg Jakubik) and DJ Nick (Nick Cianci) aim to give listeners a juicy exploration of those who tastefully and contemporarily bring the defining chord progressions, riffs, and vocal styles of classic blues to the current musical melting pot, as well as those who manifest the art of improvisation and extended, passionate expre
ssion in something that can be channeled directly into those of this generation. Thus, the show structures itself into four distinct sets – two focusing on the bands continuing the legacy of blues in unique ways (“Fresh Bluesberries”), and two focusing on the eclectic performances of both new and old “jam bands” that have carried the art into previously unknown realms of interpretation (“Juicy Jams”). BBJ TERMINOLOGY:
-Fresh Bluesberry/Berries: see above.
-Juicy Jam/Jams: see above.
-JJAFB: a sacred award given only to the mightiest of those artists whose music encompasses both the freshest of bluesberries and the juiciest of jams. Therefore, when featured in both the Fresh Bluesberries and Juicy Jams sets in a single show, they have earned the JJAFB award. Similar to - but much more honorable than - a performer winning an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony).
-Rejuicinated Jam: a cover song.
-Juicy/Fresh/Ripe/Succulent/Sweet/Bursting at the Skin of their Berries: good music.
-Ripe Record Rotation: spinning vinyl.
-Foreign Fruit: a jam sung in another (non-english) language.
-Cross-pollination: when multiple artists join forces to brew one tasty jam.
-Founding Farmer: a pioneer of the blues/the jams.
