It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the legendary musician, Spider John Koerner. For decades, John has been an integral part of the Red House Records family, leaving an indelible mark on the world of folk and blues. His unparalleled talent, unique voice, and vibrant spirit have inspired countless artists and fans alike.

John's journey with Red House Records began many years ago, and over the years, he became more than just an artist; he was a cherished friend and a beacon of authenticity in the music industry. We extend our deepest condolences to John's family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace, Spider John.

Life is a trippy trip.
Enjoy it while you’re able.
In the blink of an eye it’s over.

So remember if your rememberers work to remember to never forget that memories are all we really have.

Collect them all. Pretty soon they just become a hodge hodge of smeared ink in your bank of memories. And your memory bank charges you interest in the form of depreciation of your reminiscing assets.

I used to have smeared ink on my fingers when I was a paperboy for The Desert Sun many years ago in Palm Springs, California. The papers would get dropped off on my driveway by a mysterious man in a truck. He was always in a hurry. There was breaking news to deliver and we didn’t have phones with all the answers. The closest we got to that was when we watched Get Smart and he had a shoe phone. The future was now and time was bending.

I got really good at folding and delivering papers. I had pretty good aim and could toss that paper from my Scwhinn bike from my right or my left hand. There were rare occasions where I’d miss and the paper would end up in the sprinklers and I’d be in trouble when I went to collect money from my customers on my paper route. They might scold me and tell me to have better aim.

But here we are. It’s 2024. It’s no longer 1973. I’m not 13. I’m 64. Next year I’ll get Medicare. But I still feel like I’m 13. It’s all so fleeting. Life’ll kill ya. Let’s try to stay alive a little longer. We have more memories to make.

Here are 6 future memories waiting to be entered into the book of memories.
All tix can be acquired at poltz dot com and there are many more shows listed.
Many blessings. Let’s go nuts.

What a privilege it was to get to chat with Charles Osgood on CBS Sunday Morning back in the late ‘90s when my album Quartet came out. “The Cheese,“ as his producer Lucy Scott called him, couldn’t have been more affable and getting to play banjos together was a true joy. Thanks for shining a light on the mighty five, Charles. RIP.

Thinking of Red House Records founder, Bob Feldman, who passed away this day in 2006. He was our mentor when we started Compass Records Group and we are proud to be the caretakers of his musical legacy. -Alison and Garry and the Red House/Compass Records team
