One of the best horror films of all time.

Session 9 (2001)

Shot largely in one extremely spooky location with a digital video setup and a low budget, Session 9 is one of the most unsettling horror movie experiences of the 21st century. It is a psychological exercise in suspense that gets under your skin and just festers there.

The film follows a blue-collar work crew as they fight a tight deadline to remove asbestos from an old mental hospital. Once they get inside, though, they find the most harmful thing about the asylum is evidence of a patient's care that seemingly starts to infect each of the workers' minds. Tense, atmospheric, and full of wonderful character work and a hell of a twist ending, Session 9 is a fantastic example of less-is-more horror filmmaking.

Alien Frankenstein Terminator on a Korean cargo ship at sea filled with psychopathic criminals? Yeah something like that. No alien acid blood but more human arterial sprays than you’ve probably seen in a long time. The first act is amazing and the first appearance of the monster kicks the non-stop carnage up yet another notch….unfortunately at that point it starts to get repetitive to the point where I was looking at the time remaining and thinking….there can’t possibly be that much movie left. Worth a watch.

Pieces (1982)

Genre stalwart Christopher George stars as a detective investigating a series of chainsaw murders at a Boston university in this gonzo gorefest. Joining George in his fight to stop the slasher are a particularly suspicious student (Ian Sera) and a famous tennis pro (Lynda Day George) who, bored with the celebrity touring circuit, decides to join up as an undercover detective.

The unabashed silliness of the plot does little to dilute the entertainment value of director Juan Piquer Simón's sleazy, cheesy fever dream. Among moments of dubious dubbing and peculiar acting, the film delivers some genuinely suspenseful sequences, and Juan Mariné's cinematography is colorful and well-polished. Simón made the film in response to the Friday the 13th series, which he felt would often soft-peddle the gore. If you're in it strictly for the viscera, you will leave satisfied, and possibly even a bit exhausted, by the splattery shenanigans on display here. —D.G.

Someone commented, "I couldn't stand her monotone"....disregarding that I would very much disagree that Elizabeth's voice over is monotone....measured certainly, repressed as she has been all her life - but not monotone in the least. Perhaps too subtle for the commenter? Regardless, what do you think is a better option? She should be Screaming? Laughing? Crying? I think a sizable percentage of the genre audience is so use to LOUD that when they don't get loud...it just doesn't work for them. And this is not for them. =)

Razor Wire Alchemy LLC (aka Red Scream Films LLC) is an independent film production studio and online marketing firm operating on the edge of Buffalo, New York. Red Scream Films LLC, formed in 2009, specialized in "B-Horror Movies with Art-House Pretensions", "Erotic Grotesques" and "60s Euro Art House Cinema". Fans of Cult, Grindhouse and Art-House and Experimental should all find something to like here. Films include “Metal Noir”, “Prison of the Psychotic Damned”, “Frightworld”, “Red Scream Vampyres”, “Red Scream Nosferatu”, “Disintegration” and others.

Razor Wire Alchemy LLC formed in 2015 and specializes in art house cinema. Films include the award winning “The Algebra of Need” and its follow up “The Geometries of Desire”, the boxing documentary that is not a documentary about boxing “Goomba’s”, the experimental folk horror film “Rabbit Jaw” (on hold in post production), and currently in pre-production on the 80s Splatter Punk Epic “Rust Belt Driller”.

David holds a BA in Media Study from the State University of New York at Buffalo where he studied under such film and media Illuminati as film historian Brian Henderson, avant-garde video artist, experimental filmmaker, and musical pioneer Tony Conrad, and experimental filmmaker and photographer Lawrence Brose.
