You Must Really Commit to Make the Change You Want
Change is hard for most of us, largely because we resist it mentally. But why?
I believe we often lack focus until we lock into commitment to ourselves and embrace the power it brings to the process of making change.
See, you might want to create a new result in your life.
You might think about how to do it.
You might even try to make it happen.
But until you truly commit to making a full decision to CREATE WHAT YOU WANT, NO MATTER WHAT – failure will remain an option, maybe even inevitable.
Look, I’m not trying to be harsh here. But think about it. How many times in the past have you tried to create a certain outcome and come up short? You get excited to start but give up when you get too busy, or when you start to doubt yourself, or when you hit a roadblock.
We’ve all done it more times than we care to admit.
I know I have.
And here’s what made the difference for me. I realized that whenever I truly committed to pursuing a goal, when I replaced my nagging doubts with iron certainty, that my commitment then brought clarity.
I relied on the clarity time and time again when my mind would wander, or my enthusiasm would falter, or I would invariably face a setback.
For me, I needed the clarity of always knowing why I made the decision to start trying in the first place. Clarity helped create the overall vision of my plan, kept me focused on daily priorities, and enforced consistency over time – knowing that nothing happens as fast as we might like.
So, choose your goal. Commit to it unfailingly. Return to the crystal clarity of your choice day after day after day.
You will see success so clearly – and you deserve it!
Why You Must Dream Your ‘Impossible’ Dream
When you decide to eat right and exercise regularly, you’re challenging yourself in wonderful ways that will have profound benefits across your life.
You start learning step by step that you really can do difficult things, make important changes, and get the results you want.
It’s a powerful experience! So, let’s build on it with something new – a different kind of challenge that BY DEFINITION is going to seem impossible at first.
You ready?
I want you to challenge yourself to do something you believe you can’t do.
Go ahead and start thinking of things.
Maybe you want to run your first marathon, become a plant-based chef, or learn a new language or musical instrument.
Doesn’t matter – it’s up to you. (Just keep it to things within your control; winning the lottery doesn’t count!)
Whatever you choose, the point is to stretch yourself and to think big and grow into your desires. The process will reveal more about your abilities and values so you can strengthen positive attitudes, accomplish more, and repeat victories in other endeavors.
This is all true even if you modify your original target. The process reveals so much on its own. As we’ve all heard, success is the journey, not the destination.
You deserve that success, that trip! So, learn to celebrate the little victories… to let go of disappointments… to make adjustments along the way…
Think big and scary. Then make a plan and enlist support.
Get started and keep your eyes wide open. You can’t lose.
Have you ever had one of those 💡 moments where everything suddenly clicks?
When I began to prepare for Les Mills Live a few months ago, I realized I had to make some shifts in my nutrition and training plan to stay healthy and fit in my 50s while prepping for the event.
Hat tip to my trainer @coreysleanliving for understanding his clients and brilliant program design.

Get back to Basics: Fitness isn’t Complicated
How have you been feeling lately? Have you considered what you can do to improve your own health and lifestyle?
One of the best outcomes of living a moderate life is getting back to basics: adequate sleep, nutritious food, time for exercise—plus setting aside time to handle longstanding conditions that cause pain, embarrassment or anxiety.
Simply starting the journey toward being fit and healthy will boost your energy, immunity and brain function. And a daily walk around the neighborhood delivers noticeable results.
In order to create the future of your dreams, you need stamina and mental acuity—a healthy mind and body—to tackle the planning, action steps and self-confidence required to handle whatever comes on the journey to your ideal life.
Is there one small step you could take today toward better health and fitness? Could you . . .
• Cut out sugar and gluten, then see how much better you feel?
• Get to bed an hour earlier so you can get a better night’s rest?
• Research The Elimination Diet to identify food sensitivities?
• Clear a spot in your home and break out the yoga gear?
If you’re resolved to improve your health or fitness level in some way, why not use the best-kept secret of top achievers: coaching. Of all the things successful people do to accelerate their path to the healthy, balanced and financially secure lifestyle they want, working with a coach is at the top of the list.
Considering coaching? It helps you define the goals you want to achieve and it will keep you accountable to doing those things every day that bring about the results you want.
Right now, comment below (or message me) with the one small step you’ll take to improve your health today.
Ironically, the more you let go of control, the more you have. It takes a certain level of trust and self-worth to not desperately grasp at it.
Love y’all. Mean it.🙏🏼💖
You Have to Remove Your Own Obstacles
On life’s journey, you face certain obstacles that are blocking you from where you want to go.
We all do.
The secret to success is removing those obstacles ourselves. We can’t expect anyone else to do it for us. That job is ours and ours alone.
I see two categories of obstacles, speaking super-generally.
First, we all have the lies we tell ourselves, self-limiting beliefs that we’re not good enough, strong enough or SOMETHING enough. That we don’t deserve health, happiness, or success. These lies are totally B.S. and, again, something we all have.
Those who truly succeed have simply learned to stop listening to the nonsense.
Second, obstacles can present as challenges to managing our time, money, resources and priorities. Unfortunately, we only get so many hours in a day, so many dollars in our paycheck, and so much energy to devote to all our goals.
So, we have to make choices and set priorities.
If you’re having trouble with any of this regarding your health, relationships, finances, or career, then consider hiring a coach to help you see clearly.
Remember, these problems are common. Professionals can help you learn how to overcome your self-limiting beliefs and how to prioritize your time better.
They can help. But it’s up to YOU.
I’m here to support you. Message me if you’d like to see what coaching can do for you.
Perfection Is Overrated
Why are we so obsessed with perfection?
I mean, the fitness industry constantly hits us with images of perfectly sculpted bodies who perfectly perform their perfect workouts without fail.
And society in general demands us (especially women) to be ideal in every way –pretty, skinny, loving Moms, successful in their careers, etc… etc…
Enough!
Let’s call an audible right now and say that the idea of perfection is both overrated and a complete lie.
And in fitness, at least, it’s also entirely beside the point!
Most of us don’t want or need to even TRY to be perfect. But we all need healthy habits that we practice consistently.
👉🏻That means we follow through on our exercise commitments most of the time, generally, over the long haul.
👉🏻That means we try to eat right as much as possible – again, day in and day out, over time.
👉🏻That means we try to sleep enough most nights, and save enough money each month, and so on.
When we accept the fact that we’re headed in the right direction and doing the best we can, then it’s OK when we fall short of (yes) perfection. We can shrug it off and get back on track without beating ourselves up or making it worse.
The simple truth is: Showing up is half the battle. You do get credit for “just trying” because it adds up. And over time, all those “less than perfect” workouts and meals balance out with the consistency of your A-plus efforts.
So leave perfection to magazine ads, and live your best life for real -- one imperfect day after another.
Love y’all. Mean it.🙏🏼💖
Checking Your Progress in the New Year
Here we are in March already. How did that happen so fast?
Let’s pause a moment to check in and see how you’re doing compared to your expectations back on January 1.
Everyone can benefit from taking inventory and changing directions where needed.
1. Ask yourself how it’s been going so far in 2022. How do you feel? Are you healthy? Thankful?
2.What are some highlights of the year so far? What has held you back?
3. Consider the goals you set for the year. (I don’t like the word ‘resolution,’ but if you do, that’s fine.)
4. Measure your progress. Literally, measure it. If you wanted to lose 22 pounds in 2022, for example, and you’ve lost 4 or 5 pounds, then you’re right on track. (And if you’re not, that’s OK, too. We’re just talking about simple math to get you thinking in the right direction.)
5. But if you’re losing weight at a healthy rate and you feel good, then great: Keep it up. Give yourself a little reward of encouragement.
6. If, on the other hand, you’re unhappy with your progress, then look back on the year (No. 1 and No. 2 above) and see what was in your way. Maybe you had a huge work deadline, or a family issue, or you’ve been sick. The point here is to identify a possible problem, acknowledge it, and let it go.
7. Your review might reveal instead some areas for improvement. Maybe you need to add another workout to the week, or reduce your calories a little bit more. Maybe you need to keep a journal or enlist a friend as an accountability partner.
Don’t judge yourself harshly. Remember that you’re being SO TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE by conducting this status check.
See where you can improve, think about how you can make those adjustments, and continue on your journey, with a smile on your face and the March wind in your sails.
Let’s go!
