Our Father always is in our hearts, and all the times he stays with us. Yesterday evening, we visited our father's neighborhood where most of the time passed in his childhood. This is our grandfather's home. You can see the building, which was made by our father maestro Afzalur Rahman. Father's neighborhood has hugely changed a lot. We met with our relatives, and they cordially welcomed us. Lastly, we went to our father's last resting place. One day we could live again together. Today marks the 13th anniversary of our father's death, maestro Afzalur Rahman. Maestro Afzalur Rahman was born in 1935 in the district of Brahmanbaria, in what was then British India but is now Bangladesh. He lost his sight when he was nine because of typhoid. who studied the sarod and violin with the great maestro Ayet Ali Khan Sahab and the musical emperor Baba, maestro Allauddin Khan Sahab. He received numerous national and international awards for his outstanding performances on the sarod and the violin. From 1954, he started to play the sarod and violin on East Pakistan Radio, which is now Bangladesh Betar, and from the 25th of December 1964, the day when East Pakistan television was started, which is now Bangladesh television, Maestro Afzalur Rahman became a regular artist until his death. He was head of the instrumental department of the Allauddin Music College in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. The North Indian raga Rubaboti was composed by Maestro. He also created many North Indian classical orchestras based on different ragas. He built the Inner Eyes School of Classic Music at his home. That institution had a special section (the Inner Eyes Music Institution for the Blind) where all kinds of disabled people learned music without a fee. He has many students all over the world. The world's first blind Sarod player, maestro Afzalur Rahman, died on December 26th, 2009. This musical legend will be remembered for his outstanding contribution to North Indian classical music.
