Mateo didn’t back away from her narrowed, murderous glare. He could take her anger. What he couldn’t take, what he refused to accept was the intention she spoke in a soft voice.

“I’m done,” she stated matter of factually, lacking all emotion.

He flinched as if he had been shot. His light browns bore into her unblinking light blues.

“Think before you speak,” he replied.

“I don’t want you anymore. I know what I’m saying.”

He could tell that a hurricane was brewing. It was a storm that he wasn’t going to be able to hold off till they were in a safe place. He had to be focused on whatever danger that there might be outside.

“Carmella, I-“

“Shut up! I don’t want my name in your mouth!”

Mateo knew it was wise for Christine to put herself in the far corner of the elevator out of harm's way. He punched the red, stop button. The elevator je**ed to a halt. He ran his hands through his hair as he fought for a way out of this mess.

“Baby, I know this is a shock. I know what I’ve done is-“

“How long, huh? How long you’ve been creeping on me? I gotta say, you had my dumb ass fooled. One more trick…one more mind game…one more round of humiliation and insult…if your Ma was alive, I would beat her for not swallowing you,” she sneered.

“All that is true. I won’t insult you for trying to lie.”

“Too late, Mateo. You can save the s**t. It’s that what you tell your trolls before you cap’em?” she snickered.

Mateo lowered his powerful body to the marble tile ground. He waited. Carmella just glared down at him, locked in thought.

“You can’t just walk away,” he spoke, firmly.

She smiled. Three steps were all it took to close the distance between her and his kneeling form. When he thinks back to the events, Mateo will sure be able to recognize the fire in the depths of her eyes. He’ll be smart never to forget it in the future. Maybe it was the fact that he had never seen it till, now. Either way, he narrowed his gaze, sensing her reaction wasn’t right. The first sign was the way her hand that gently ran through his midnight hair grasped it painfully. In one swift move, she je**ed his head down to connect with her knee.

Christine gasped. The maneuver sent Mateo leaning backward. Blood flowed like a river from his nose. It took him a few more hits of her balled fists for it to dawn on him that she was attempting kicking his ass. He was just that flabbergasted. His hands shot out to arrest her wrists. Wanting more, she began to wrestle in his vise-like grip.

Listen, 2024 is the YEAR for advancement.
I'm thankful for Youtube University for all of the info i have found through my research and the tips from fellow authors. All of these ideas I have had and tried for years to implement but the tech and resources wasn't there. NOW, finally, things have caught up with my vision for After Hours Publications and my Christine Gray brand.
