"What appears as a compendium of standalone fables, essays, and poems emerges as a complex portrait of Rivers, formed around the shape of his absence."
What a wonderful text by Maria Dimitrova on our book Ben Rivers Collected Stories.

We’re delighted to reveal the five remaining titles in the Decadent Editions – our series of ten books about ten films, one for each year of the 2000s – and announce that the next to be published is Christine Smallwood’s La Captive.

Taking up the year 2000, La Captive completes the Decadent Editions, together with K. Austin Collins’s Domestic Violence (2001), Anwen Crawford’s Morvern Callar (2002), Ed Halter’s At Sea (2007) and J. Hoberman’s Disorder (2009).

They join the previously announced titles in the series, the first four of which have already been published: Nick Pinkerton’s Goodbye, Dragon Inn (2003), Erika Balsom's TEN SKIES (2004), Dennis Lim’s Tale of Cinema (2005), Melissa Anderson’s Inland Empire (2006) and Rebecca Harkins-Cross’s The Headless Woman (2008).

La Captive is available to pre-order now, or you can subscribe to the series and receive the books weeks ahead of their official publication dates + save 20% on the cover price.

It’s with pleasure that we announce a new collaboration with Ben Rivers ( ). The book Collected Stories is just what the title implies: a collection of stories, curated by Ben, written by contemporary authors who have influenced his filmmaking over the years.

Ahead of the retrospective ‘Ghost Strata, and other Stories’, taking place at from November 14-26, Ben invited fourteen authors to watch one of his films and respond in writing in any way they wished. Imaginative and surprising, the fables, essays and poems of Collected Stories come together in a beautiful celebration of the work of one of contemporary cinema’s vital artists, doubling as a testament to the reciprocal nature of inspiration.

The writers of these collected stories are Gina Apostol, Chloe Aridjis, Kevin Barry, Xiaolu Guo (), Golan Haji, M John Harrison, Daisy Hildyard, Nathalie Léger, Vanessa Onwuemezi (), Helen Oyeyemi, Iain Sinclair, Irene Solà (.sola.saez), Lynne Tillman () and Marina Warner.

New pictures of our new book! 'Whit Stillman: Not so long ago' hits bookstores next week and launches this Sunday, Sep 10, at New York’s Metrograph, with Whit Stillman in person to present screenings of his second feature, Barcelona (1994), and of one of his favourite films, Hitchcock’s little-known Young and Innocent (1937).

Alongside a new, 15,000-word, career-spanning interview, 'Whit Stillman: Not so long ago' features a fold-out archival dossier, a selection of Stillman’s own personal writings on cinema, and essays on his films, with contributions from Serge Bozon, Charlotte Garson, Haden Guest, Beatrice Loayza, Cyril Neyrat, Nick Pinkerton and Félix Rehm.

Happy 100th birthday, Pier Paolo Pasolini!

As some of you may know, Pasolini was the inspiration for the name ‘Fireflies’ and the subject of our very first publication. Today is the centenary of his birth and we’re thrilled to announce our new publication: PIER PAOLO PASOLINI: WRITING ON BURNING PAPER.

The book honours Pasolini's enduring influence by staging a dialogue between cinema today and Pasolini's timeless films and words.

Pasolini's epic autobiographical poem "Poeta delle ceneri”, in a revised translation by esteemed poet Stephen Sartarelli, is set alongside original written and visual tributes by some of the most exciting filmmakers from across the contemporary landscape – including Radu Jude, Catherine Breillat, Jia Zhangke, Anocha Suwichakornpong, Roberto Minervini, Angela Schanelec, Gustavo Vinagre, Basma Alsharif and Alexandre Koberidze.

More details, including the full list of contributing filmmakers, will be revealed in the coming months.

The book comes out in the autumn and can currently be purchased on our webshop at a special pre-sale price.

Close-Up Cinema on the 5th of February for a screening of MEMORIA, where we'll also present our book on the film. Come say hi!

Winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2021, the latest feature from director Apichatpong Weerasethakul stars Tilda Swinton as a woman left isolated and traumatised by unexplained sounds and noises that it appears only she can hear. This screening coincide with Fireflies Press book launch Memoria.

Left speechless by Corentin Lê's review of the MEMORIA book in Critikat, which perfectly grasps and beautifully describes what we set out to do.

"To represent, through the layout, the excavation involved in the exploration of memory: here is the appeal of this beautiful work, which doesn’t merely crystallise the film’s trajectory within an elegant edition, but manages to extend, on paper, its vibrant journey."
