MaVynee “Oshun” Betsch dedicated her life to the preservation and protection of American Beach from further development. She was an eco-activist that took things to the next level—she knew that an attack on nature was an attack on people, that we need the Earth to survive, and anyone who poses a threat to the Earth in the end poses a threat to humanity. She even went as far as changing her name because she did not want to have anything in come with Ronald Reagan, saying in an interview, “My name is Marvynne, the spelling is different now because I took the R out. I now spell it M-A—capital V-Y-N-E-E. I took the R out because of Reagan. I am an environmentalist and of course he had the nerve to say when you’ve seen one Redwood, you’ve seen them all and that infuriated me. So, I took my R out.” 🌱 🌍
