Publications to Empower Ordinary Humans with Horses
Horses and Humans Publications specialises in publishing books that are designed to empower ordinary human carers of horses who are looking for a new way of being with and caring for these magnificent creatures, one which preserves the dignity of both horse and human in a mutually beneficial, caring relationship based on trust and commitment.
To date we have published four books which chronicle the evolution of an ordinary man in relation to his horses over a period of more than a decade. His story starts at the time when he had virtually given up on horses because he could no longer see the point in subjecting them to his bossy nature to make them do or not do things for his pleasure. These books reveal where and how he found the inspiration to return to horses with renewed enthusiasm and a commitment to finding a new way of relating to them to the point where he and his partner sell up everything and cross the world with a horse and a dog to spend a year with the most popular horseman on the planet, if Facebook and YouTube statistics are to be believed.
Ultimately, this is a story not of how a human trained and changed horses to have them do his bidding but of how horses helped the man to change and rediscover his humanity. In response to the changes in the man, his horses begin to respond to the new human developing within him. Over time he is able to abandon harsh metal, leather and rope restraints along with intruments of coercion, such as “carrot” sticks and whips, in his everyday dealings with his horses, from general care through to walks and rides in nature. Increasingly, the man is able to rely on body language and energy to communicate with and relate to his horses, the very “language” which horses use so effectively amongst each other.
Not only do the books chronicle these changes, they also contain the man’s insights into them and his understanding of what is happening to him, his horses and general developments in the equestrian world. His most recent book, aptly entitled When Horses Speak and Humans Listen, contains many of the lessons that he has learned from horses. A new book focusing predominantly on body language and energetical communication is currently in the making.
