Very sad to hear the news of the death of musician, Brendan Croker. Brendan & the 5 o’clock Shadows were my introduced to live music, when I was obscenely young so much so I had to say that I was the bass player’s brother in order to be admitted into a pub house in order to see them perform. I saw them at the Grove in Leeds for 35p in the early 80s and boy, could they play, they played like hell. The blues, country & the Nashville scene was their musical home.
I’d get a lift home by the band in the back of the van after the shows back then with all the gear, and I absolutely loved it. Brendan made some proper money in the 90s when teaming up with his old mates, including Mark Knopfler in the Notting Hill Billies, although considered rather uncool, I didn’t care I knew Brendan did well out of it and bought a recording studio in Leeds with advance. Also later heard through his ex bass player. Nigel Brooke that he wrote some Nashville number ones!
Apparently he was diagnosed with a terminal condition. He discharged himself from hospital ad made his final journey home. Rest in peace Brendan you were a great singer and a fantastic performer..
