Texas GOP Vote Community of conservative writers, activists, and lawmakers, and platform for policy discussions We welcome readers' comments.

TexasGOPVote is a broad community of writers, activists, and legislators who believe that healthy debate will lead to a better Republican Party. One of our primary objectives is to connect grassroots activists across Texas with our elected leaders - both in Austin and Washington - to ensure a genuine dialogue between the Republican voter and the people they send to the halls of power. Various view

points on any given issue may be expressed in the articles found on TexasGOPVote.com. The Republican Party is the party of Abraham Lincoln, formed to abolish slavery and to uphold the principles of a democratic constitutional republic upon which the United States of America was formed. We believe in every person's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and believe that our founding fathers gave us the constitutional framework to enable every person the God-given right to pursue their dreams. As such, we believe in the sanctity of human life and do not tolerate racism and bigotry and other forms of prejudice. We believe in the rule of law and that our Constitution gives us the framework for making and changing laws as deemed necessary by our elected officials. We believe that beyond these fundamental principles, there is a diversity of opinion within our party on matters of governance, and we welcome debate on these matters. We believe our core principles are what built the foundation for a lasting Republican majority in Texas. We believe these same core principles and the diversity of opinions expressed in Texas, the largest Republican state, also set the example and direction for republicanism in the United States. Our mission is to serve as the home of Republican exceptionalism for Texas and the United States.

The lesson for those who support immigration reform, whether Democrats or others, is simple: avoid chaos. This means expanding legal immigration from abroad through more work visas, parole, green cards, and other means to channel would-be illegal immigrants into the legal system. This means focusing on excluding and deporting criminals, national security threats, and those who harm others.

Democrats, liberals, and Never Trumpers are filling opinion pages of major magazines and newspapers with explanations of why Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump.

U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), along with 40 of their Senate GOP colleagues, introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that allows concealed carry, while still abiding by that state’s laws.

We hope President-elect Donald Trump uses this opportunity to work with Congress to pass sensible immigration reform that reflects the wishes of the majority of Americans. First, we must secure our borders. Second, reform the asylum system. Third, we must offer a path to permanent legal status for the Dreamers. Lastly, we must ID and Tax the long-time unauthorized immigrants who can pass background checks.

We hope the President-elect uses this as an opportunity to work with Congress to pass sensible immigration reform that reflects the wishes of the majority of Americans. Find the things we agree on and start there.

There is one issue that is flying under the radar that will come up again in the next Texas legislative session. Thirty-nine states have legalized online sports betting, and the gaming industry and professional sports teams are pushing hard for Texas to become the 40th. The gaming industry is asking the legislature to put it on the ballot for voters to decide. There are two important questions that are bound up in this issue. First, should citizens be given this choice? Second, should online sports betting be legal? These questions deserve more than social media posts and clever sound bites.

In their brief, they argue a lawsuit filed by Mexico in U.S. federal court against American fi****ms manufacturers, for crimes committed by Mexican cartels in Mexico, is a violation of American sovereignty and threatens the Second Amendment.

President-elect Donald Trump recently expressed desires to work in a bipartisan manner with lawmakers to pass legislation that will allow Dreamers to stay in the U.S. legally. As DACA faces a ruling from the Supreme Court in 2025 that is likely to strike the program down due to the way it was created through executive order, the urgency for a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers is increasing.

As President-elect Donald J. Trump claims victory in securing Mexico's agreement to stop migration through its borders, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo strikes a different tone. In a high-stakes phone call, these two leaders navigate the tensions of border security, trade, and diplomacy. With a 25% tariff looming and migration enforcement already underway, the future of U.S.-Mexico relations hangs in the balance. The border remains a flashpoint, and the world is watching to see whether these two leaders can rise above the rhetoric to forge a path forward.

In a high-stakes phone call that could shape U.S.-Mexico relations for years to come, President-elect Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the thorny issue of migration and border security. As the holiday season approaches, we look forward to gathering with family and friends, sharing stories, enjoying hearty meals, and giving thanks for the blessings in our lives. For many, Thanksgiving brings to mind images of Plymouth Rock, the pilgrims, and traditional dishes like oven-roasted turkey and pumpkin pie. But the very first Thanksgiving may have actually occurred right here in Texas decades before the Pilgrims even set foot on Plymouth Rock.

Congressman Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, warned that indiscriminate mass deportations under a new Trump administration would be unfeasible and damaging to the Republican Party. “If the message is, ‘We’re here to deport your abuelita,’ that’s not going to work well,” Gonzales said. “It has to be one of holding these hardened criminals accountable.” U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, who has led policy for the House Freedom Caucus, asserted that all immigrants in the country who entered illegally must be deported. Other Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, said the incoming Trump administration should focus on “the dangerous persons that we know are here.”

U.S. Senator John Cornyn and Republican Senators sent a letter to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell expressing concern over recent reports that a FEMA employee advised disaster assistance teams in Florida responding to Hurricane Milton to avoid homes that had yard signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump. The employee has since claimed that the orders came from supervisors at FEMA, raising grave concerns over potential widespread politicization of disaster relief.

A safe and legal sports betting market in Texas could generate up to $648 million in tax revenue in the first five years and it wouldn’t cost taxpayers a dime. But right now – and six years after the Supreme Court gave us the green light to decide on sports betting for ourselves – we’re missing out on this revenue to other states and black-market sportsbooks. Texans are already placing sports bets; we need to regulate the market now and create a new funding source for critical state programs and tax relief.

Many Republican politicians and their supporters worried about immigrants and their descendants being permanent Democratic voters and that more legal immigration would usher in generations of Democratic Party dominance. This week’s election returns are dramatic evidence that immigrants and their children are assimilating to American political norms, voting Republican in huge numbers, and that Donald Trump defeated the best politically self-interested argument for Republicans to oppose increased legal immigration.

My colleagues and I have spent much time addressing the arguments raised by those who favor further restricting legal immigration to the United States. Our research on terrorism, crime, economic, fiscal, welfare consumption, and culture addresses specific arguments against liberalized immigration. A...

As the leaves shift from green to shades of red and brown, Fall brings more than just hayrides, pumpkin patches, and trick-or-treating. You may not realize it while carving your jack-o’-lantern, but Texas is home to more than just famous haunted houses—you don’t have to look far to stumble upon a graveyard with a story to tell.

Congressman Dan Crenshaw led a letter sent by Members from the House Energy and Commerce Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee to United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken raising concerns about the Biden-Harris administration’s recent announcement supporting plastic production caps in the United Nations’ Global Plastics Treaty. Their new position is alarming, as production limits on plastic manufacturing would significantly hamper U.S. economic activity and make the country more dependent on foreign countries with lower emissions standards.

While announcing an interest rate cut last month, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell made comments about immigration that many have misconstrued to argue that immigration is increasing unemployment. Immigrants are not taking jobs away from Americans or causing the unemployment rate to rise. A decline in immigration would be a bad sign for the labor market. Immigrants come when job opportunities exist. As the labor market has cooled, fewer immigrants have been crossing the border illegally since the start of the year.

To mark the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ unprovoked attack on Israel, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) authored an op-ed in the Dallas Morning News highlighting the pressing need for America’s leaders to support Israel and stand up to terrorism around the world. "If Oct. 7 wasn’t a wake-up call for this administration, I don’t know what will be. We face a modern-day axis of evil, and we cannot be naive to the fact that our reaction to terrorism around the world can and will affect our national security here at home. We ignore this grim reality at our own peril," said Cornyn.
