Hey y’all, I’m BEGGING you to stop sharing this “Arabs can’t be antisemitic, they’re a Semitic people!” post. It’s an antisemitic talking point and has been for a long time.

Posts like that are an entymological fallacy. They will show their followers the word “Semitic”, but not the actual word we are looking to define here.

Listen, I agree- end the occupation. I agree that there are some people using this word (“antisemitism”) to deflect from any criticism of Israel. But on the other hand, there are also people using anything israel does to support worldwide antisemitism. Because of posts like this, now when there is actual legitimate antisemitism happening and someone labels it as such, antisemites are simply going to deflect from it by going “that’s not what that word means hehe” 😒

This post is wrong and OOP is simply wrong. Not every word can be simply defined by pulling apart its linguistical parts. If that was true, the word “sinister” would only refer to left-handed people. People use the same etymological fallacy for words like “homophobia” and “transphobia”. Hell, TERFS do it with the word “woman”!

Also, dictionaries are very reductive sources. They’re not good for these kinds of conversations. The German antisemitismus was popularized by an anti-Jewish agitator in Germany. He used it because it sounded more scientific and legitimate than the German Judenhouse. This man, Wilhelmar- his writing set the stage for what was to come in Germany.

So while yes, the word “Semitic” in the modern sense refers to languages, in the historical sense it referred to debunked “race science”. The word “antisemite” has very specific meaning, and it refers to JUST Jews and it always has. Please stop quick googling things and acting like you’re an expert on them, because it becomes very difficult to tell who is trying to end the occupation vs who is just trying to dismiss thousands of years of antisemitism.

It’s possible to acknowledge that Jews are indigenous to Palestine while also supporting #FreePalestine However, I’ve been seeing a lot of people deny that us Jews are indigenous to Palestine because “they look too white to be from that area.” Here’s the thing- Jews are not white, even the PALEST jew in the world will only be white-passing at best. The Jewish people have been and are STILL extremely historically maligned and oppressed. Jews do not fit the social, genetic, historical, or phenotypical definitions of "whiteness". We never have. We will ALWAYS be indigenous people of the land of Palestine. This is not up for debate. I have spent my whole life trying to justify my mere existence as a Jewish person to so many people and I'm tired of giving goyim who refuse to listen to us the time of day. Respect Jews. Listen to Jews when we say we are not white. If you can't even do that, get ur anti-semitic ass out of our lives. Also leftist POC need to stop denying that Jews are also POC just because were too pale for y’all. This is deadass why so many Jews end up switching to conservatism or centrism. Nothing is more infuriating than to have our own identities denied in leftist spaces by people who we thought were our comrades. White-passing Jews exist. I myself am a white-passing Jew and so many people have tried to deny my identity. No more. I’m tired of it. I am not white and I never have been. Leftists love to say “don’t speak over black people if ur not black” or “don’t speak over Latino people if ur not Latino” but then will not give even a SEMBLANCE of that same respect towards Jewish people.
