Planetary Assault Systems revisits ‘In From The Night’ with P.A.S edits and a remix from Adam Beyer & Wehbba

Planetary Assault Systems is one of UK techno veteran Luke Slater's most enduring aliases, a project focused on forward-thinking techno with maximum cerebral impact. 'In From The Night' came out in 1993 as part of the ‘Planetary Funk Vol 1 EP’ on Peacefrog and has remained an underground favourite since.

Here on his own Mote-Evolver label, Slater revisits the track with a fresh perspective across two edits and an interpretation from Drumcode’s Adam Beyer and celebrated Brazilian DJ/producer Webbha. The techno titans team up to deliver a remix with thunderous energy as tense synths patterns loop, evolve, and grow ever more edgy as the track unfolds throughout.

On the flip, the first ‘P.A.S. Edit’ is a potent touch-up that finds pounding drums overlaid with raw and textural synth patterns alongside occasional crashing claps and a rising sense of dark cosmic energy. The ‘P.A.S. Live Edit’ unfolds in broken patterns and reverberates with menace as more searing synth lines fire across the dance floor.

Tenzella - Hard Grind EP [Hardgroove, HARDGROOVE017]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

Liverpool’s Tenzella steps up for his debut appearance on Ben Sims’ Hardgroove in November with the six-track ‘Hard Grind’ EP.

While the rhythmic intensity of the tracks on ‘Hard Grind EP’ are as drivingly present throughout, each track on the EP brings a pleasingly distinct direction. From the ‘proper’ bassline of the vocal sample-licked opening title track through to the immense fun(k) of Jazz infused ‘Jazz Tool’, Tenzella draws on a broad palette of sounds.

The shuffled, kick-heavy punch of the aptly titled ‘The Mule’ contrasts the hypnotic, heads-down collaboration with Ecilo, ‘Dobermann’, whilst the frenetic, organ-punctuated ‘Discostupid’ balances the more minimalist aesthetics of 'Rosa'.

Our Friday selection:
Uncertain - Suspect EP [Mind Medizin, MDZN008]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

Lady Tazz's kinky techno outlet Mind Medizin welcomes Uncertain for a powerful new techno outing.

Uncertain formerly worked as Boriqua Tribez and has been at the heart of the European underground for years. Under this alias, he brings a love of the classic sound to a passion for the frantic side of techno and is a thrilling DJ who plays across three decks with rare dexterity. The likes of Richie Hawtin, Ben Sims and Amelie Lens are bona fide fans of his music. Under both aliases, he has made more than 50 EPs on labels such as KMS, Kneaded Pains and Uncage. Now he steps up to one of the contemporary scene's finest imprints.

First up is 'Suspect' which immediately locks you into its tunneling techno groove. As the seductive rubbery drums race on, chattery claps pepper the mix and warped vocals add a freaky atmosphere. It's banging but controlled, hard but funky and perfect for heady dance floors.

The superb 'Anxious' then takes off at high speed on a cantering techno rhythm. The bulky drums and razor-sharp hi-hats never let up as a whip-snapping bassline darts around below. It's high tension, high-pressure, supple and driving techno with deft synths that add just enough colour next to the clipped soul of the vocal stabs.

This is a brilliant brace of powerful techno cuts from Uncertain and Mind Medizin.

Uncertain drops heaving five-tracker ‘Escape’ on Rekids Special Projects this November.

Formerly known as Boriqua Tribez, Uncertain has been a driving force in electronic music for over two decades, releasing music under a host of aliases across a number of respected labels. With recent appearances on Kneaded Pains, Suara, and Tronic amongst others, Uncertain now sets his sights to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects, delivering five bone-crushing techno tracks for the label.

Leading the release is the title track ‘Escape’, a high energy start to the EP. ‘Base’ follows with a dose of funk as warped samples and rumbling kicks twist into a rolling groove, before ‘Crush’ brings swinging drums and vocal snippets together for a rowdy cut. ‘Transmit’ marries synth stabs with heavy low-end and subtle hooks before ‘Organic’ closes the release with a direct combination of wonky pads, classic drum machines, and cleverly utilised FX.

Subradeon drop a mammoth five-track techno EP on Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects.

Comprising Giuseppe Salone and Salvatore Iannotta, Subradeon have been releasing quality techno on their eponymous imprint, Ben Sims’ Hardgroove, Deetron’s Character and many more since their 2017 debut on Motech. Now returning with a heavy five-tracker on Rekids Special Projects, the duo deliver a release that takes influence from the genre’s history in the Motor City while simultaneously looking forward.

Leading the release, ‘The Spirit’ opens with scintillating synths, punchy drum machines, and a recurring vocal refrain before the dense pads and rumbling percussion of ‘Your Mission’ culminate in a breakdown peppered with spoken word. ‘Moonshine’ sees rocking drums and fluttering instrumentation collide before ‘Break That Pattern’ reaches for trippy stereo FX and sharp sound design. ‘Human Resistance’ closes the release with a flurry of synthesised strings and spoken word clashing over pumping kicks and claps.

"From the city to the suburbs, we are still struggling. For those who the job only means a piece of bread. For those who still fight for fairness, kindness, and for equality of gender, race, or religion. For those who spend their energy every day to move forward, even knowing that they will always be the last.” - Subradeon.

Markantonio & Drumsauw - Foundation EP [On Edge Society, OES031]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

On Edge Society welcomes Italian techno mainstay Markantonio and rising English talent Drumsauw as the pair deliver their three-track ‘Foundation’ EP.

Founded in 2015, Carlo Lio and Kareem Cali’s On Edge Society imprint has been a long-standing provider of impactful techno cuts from the scene’s biggest names and freshest talent, including artists such as Truncate, Regal, Marco Faraone, Marco Bailey and Avision. Up next, the US-based imprint welcomes Neapolitan techno staple Markantonio as the AnalyticTrail boss follows up releases via EI8HT, Mindshake and REDIMENSION with three gripping collaborations alongside UK talent Draumsauw (Analytic Trail/Planet Rhythm) as the pair make their label debut with their ‘Foundation’ EP.

Title track ‘Foundation’ sets the tone and launches into a loopy ride through classic techno textures reinforced by tough kicks as a fiesta of hi-hats propel the production forwards, while ‘Keep Moving’ brings a robust yet hypnotic approach as metallic drums march forth beneath the track’s evolving melodies. Closing the show, ‘Tribe’ welcomes further deeper grooves and sharp claps for another punchy yet silky workout, rounding out an impressive first appearance on On Edge Society from the two talents.

BRAVER - Warm Body Cold Soul [GAMA, GAMA002]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

Copenhagen’s Mads Lerager, aka BRAVER, is a staple of the Danish capital and has been active in the city’s party scene since 1996, now a part of the Sunday party series and collective Love.Rave. Readying a new EP on his and Gabriella Vergilov’s freshly minted GAMA imprint, BRAVER drops four dancefloor-focused cuts drawing from house, techno, and electro.

Leading the release, ‘Warm’ sees a loop techno workout with Gabriella Vergilov delivering spoken words in Danish and Bulgarian. ‘Body’ follows, with classic dub-techno techniques twisted into a deep and rolling number. ‘Cold’ brings together driving drums, subtle acid leads, and vocoder vocals, while the closing track ‘Soul’ sees a broken electro beat peppered with blistering synths, washed-out pads, and emotive melodies.

Created and curated by Gabriella Vergilov and Mads Lerager, aka BRAVER, GAMA is a new Bulgarian-Danish label. Primarily, but not exclusively, focused on releasing their own productions, the label offers the duo an outlet for self-exploration within house, techno and beyond.

Our Saturday selection:
Any Act - Deti Techno EP [Lone Romantic, LR023]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

Maceo Plex's Lone Romantic label signs up new school techno innovators Any Act for the powerful Deti Techno EP.

Since their self-released protest EP ‘Civil Act’, Yaroslavl-based collective Any Act have put out music that is physically, socially and politically powerful. That debut from the TRAM Planet Records associates was an evocative offering that paired dynamic guitar riffs with samples of a policeman's voice and acid-laced basslines. They now continue their mission to unite and strengthen young music communities in their native Russia, as well as around the world, with this new standout release.

The bristling title track opens up with a killer electro-techno groove. Distorted synth stabs and dark vocal samples make for an intense and edgy atmosphere that will fire up any club. 'Jug A Jug' is another visceral track with razor-sharp synths ripping up the groove as busted bass blasts down low. Add in angular riffs and booming kicks and you have an explosive techno rave-up.

The excellent 'Bayla' is another no-frills, lo-fi, high-impact banger with thumping drums and brain-frying synth textures that are all coated in grit and grime. 'Till I Die' shows a different side with its sleazy feel and ghetto bass. A freaky female vocal and pixelated melodies bring late-night rave vibes before closer 'Chin Chin De' takes off on rugged electro drum programming. It's an explosive cut with raw attitude and unbound energy that places you at the heart of a strobe-lit warehouse.

01. Deti Techno
02. Jug a Jug

Taube - Higher Purpose EP [Boysnoize Records, BNR221]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

Taube returns to Boysnoize Records with more unrestrained, hedonistic techno. Keeping fun at the forefront of his productions, Taube fuels his tracks with personal touches and character. ‘Higher Purpose’ serves as the perfect introduction to the raw madness that follows, opening the EP with dissonant melodies juxtaposed by ardent chants. ‘Teal Strobe’ then rattles the club while bright lights flash before your eyes, bleeps dominating a throbbing rhythm occasionally interrupted by a sudden, chasmal breakdown.

Four to the floor drums and a classic techno stab provide stability while unpredictable signals ring high in ‘Counting Trees’, before ‘Alhorn’ closes the instalment in true Taube fashion. Kicks stomp and rumble, cables break and modular synths speed along while a peculiar voice preaches about death. Yet despite their message, exhilaration is the only possible destination in this track.

Through his productions Taube has gained recognition roaming the realms of Techno, Happy Hardcore, Rave and Glitch, his sound design marked by complexity and distinct personality. After recently signing with Boysnoize Records, the Berlin artist now follows up his "Where To Go” EP on the label with more high-volumes of passion and energy.

Our Sunday selection:
PRØVOST - My Feeling [Techno Brooklyn Records, TBK011]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

PRØVOST is the DJ and production moniker of Ryan Provost, the driving force behind leading New York club and record label Techno Brooklyn. Techno Brooklyn has gone from strength to strength in recent years, hosting the likes of Layton Giordani, Kevin Saunderson, Sam Paganini, Bart Skills, Nastia and many more at their weekly club night. Whilst Provost himself has been making an impact both as a club resident and a hotly tipped producer and remixer.

‘My Feeling’ sees PRØVOST take things up a gear, with a single set to propel him into the major leagues. The record is a hypnotic techno monster tethering the producer’s trademark entrancing sound to a classic Alexander O’Neal vocal, previously made dancefloor ready by Junior Jack in the late 90s. PRØVOST’s use of this timeless hook, nestled amongst rave-inspired stabs, emotive pads and propulsive drums, makes this a guaranteed dancefloor bomb for the remainder of 2022’s festival season.

The flipside sees the artist deliver an equally powerful offering as ‘Disco Lights’ brings arpeggiated melodies that rub against rolling snares and the incantation to "jack to the morning light”.

PRØVOST’s ‘My Feeling’ will be available on digital sales and streaming platforms on 7th October.

Midfield General - Coatnoise (KiNK Remix) [Skint, 538854655]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

Bulgarian techno wizard KiNK is next up to remix Midfield General's classic 'Coatnoise,' hot on the heels of Dance System's unique version in September.

KiNK is widely recognised as one of the best live acts in electronic music. He is a master of manipulating his hardware and cooking up acid, techno, broken beat and house soundtracks that are as unpredictable as they are expressive. He has released on plenty of vital labels from Running Back to KMS to his own Sofia Records over the last decade. Now he lands on Skint with a remix of a Midfield General tune that appeared on the ‘Generalisation’ album in 1999.

'Coatnoise' (KiNK Remix) finds the electronic innovator in peak time mode: this is urgent, strobe-lit and bouncing techno for packed out dance floors. The drums are clipped yet funky, the synths are packed with futurism and soul, and vocal stabs add extra intensity and fire to this most compelling of tracks. As always with KiNK, all sorts of synth details and subtle effects arrive to detail the groove as it continues to surge onwards.

This is a second superb remix of an enduring dance music classic.

Our Tuesday selection:
apaull - 4Sol [Furnace Room Records, 1horn]

LINK IN BIO or itsoundsfuture.com

apaull is a dutch-canadian producer, awakened from a long musical slumber and who is now busy exploring in-the-box musical potential, that was at one point futuristic and unimaginable. With Abe Duque as executive producer, apaull’s efforts are scoped and focused into a coherent package.

While the strange times we live in punch us in face most days we can still explore the shiny shards of hope, littered throughout the detritus of lives upended and dreams suspended.

apaull’s debut 4Sol EP tries to address both, presenting the good news first and the danceable bad news second.

"At fourteen and in a record shop, under some duress, I bought a gospel album rather than the Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever album I really wanted. March Song pays homage to what were then strange new disco sounds. Disco’s tentacles weave their way through the music I listen to and have spilled into the creative process I use to produce music”

March Song reminds that we can, for a few moments, ignore today’s calamities and that there is a brighter future over the still unseen horizon.

La Censura is about real time. We seem to be yielding ourselves to the throes of autho- ritarianism, with very little fight. Does it make us feel safer? Its cudgel, censorship, seems to be an unsophisticated afterthought that is being embraced as an acceptable tool to stifle dissent. Say (think) the wrong thing and you become an "anti” or worse yet an "ist”.

Yesterday boys and girls fought for freedom from tyranny. In today’s re-litigation carou- sel, they and what they have protected have become the tyranny. No Dimension provi- des some clues about why we are ...[ ]
