Sand & Pine

Sand & Pine My grandmother is over 80 and still doesn't need glasses. Drinks right out of the bottle. - Henny Yo Lucky you.

There is no "I" in "TEAM" but the "I" you'll see on this page is me, Amanda, the Creative Director at Sand & Pine Magazine. Sure, Editor Greg will throw in a post here and there, but for the most part it's my snarkiness filling this page. What to expect on this page - I'll share community events, our recent articles and blog posts, photos taken in and around the Sandhills, as well as random stuff

I find funny, interesting, insightful. What you won't see on this page - While I will post community events, I don't post sales or marketing events of individual stores. I also avoid profanity and if I do share content that might be construed as adult, I'll mark it NSFW as a heads up.

It is with heavy hearts that we must share the news we will be pausing production of Sand & Pine Magazine and Pinehurst Living Magazine.

We started Sand & Pine Magazine in 2014 with the desire to bring a unique and engaging voice to our wonderful community. In 2015, we were offered the opportunity to purchase Pinehurst Magazine, the oldest continuous magazine in the area. Since then, we have produced 100 issues in total celebrating the people and places of the Sandhills.

Producing both of the magazines over the years has brought us much joy. We’ve met a countless number of eclectic, kind and inspiring people that we’ve had the honor of highlighting in our publications, and developing each story has allowed our appreciation of the area to grow more than we could have ever imagined.

We could not have produced these labors of love each month without the exceptional effort of all those that worked alongside us. To our writers, designers, photographers, sales reps, editors, advertisers, readers, and all those we fail to mention, we will be eternally grateful.

The time has come, however, for us to concentrate our efforts on other business ventures. We have discussed keeping both publications alive in some format online, through special printings and with new owners but nothing has been finalized as of this message. We’re going to take some time to think about how best to continue both brands.

In the meantime, we hope you’ll visit us at our shop, Purple Thistle Kitchen & Co., in the Village of Pinehurst, and seek us out if you’re in need of property management services at our real estate firm Southbound Properties. Someone said, “Whatever good things we build end up building us.” Truer words …. Thank you for all the memories!

Best,

Greg & Amanda

July 14 UPDATE! - Sand & Pine Teacher Welcome Bags - UPDATE!

Sponsor an item - look at the following list and if you an item you’d like to sponsor, you can either buy that item (we need 150 of them) and drop it off at the Purple Thistle in the Village of Pinehurst before July 29 OR you can write us a check for whatever amount you're willing to donate and we’ll pick up the item on our next Costco trip. We’ll be posting this list on our FB page and updating it regularly. We don’t think a teacher needs 5 can coozies, so claim your item first and check often!

Either way you’ll get your business name on the insert in the new teacher welcome bag as well as a listing on the Thank You ad in the August/September issue of Sand & Pine.

Want to include something else?
Have a gift card or two you’d like to donate, but don’t have 150 of them? That’s okay! We will be collecting items that don’t fit into the teacher bags and creating raffle baskets. During the new teacher orientation, all teachers present will have a chance to win one of the raffle baskets!

What We Can’t Accept
While we would love to include coupons, business cards and flyers, let’s be honest, they get thrown out and are rarely redeemed. These welcome bags are gifts to new teachers from our community. Let’s give them something they will actually use. We will accept a coupon for a completely free item, not a BOGO or a BOGO 50% off or anything of that nature. Let’s save some trees and show our teachers how much we appreciate them.

Deadline: We need items no later than July 29.

What is it about a new year that brings out a sense of creativity? Or is that just ennui. Either way, use it to write something for us!

We want your best haiku - about the current pandemic, about your dog, about your personal plans for world domination, about your favorite food, whatever. We want to read them.

Submit them here in the comments or send them to [email protected] by January 6.

Oh and in case you forgot, a haiku is three lines. 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second and 5 in the last.

We'll go first:

Write us a haiku
Get creative and silly
Just no swear words please
