"...if I'm the people's champ, I don't need a trophy for championing people." - Lizzo
Lizzo IS the People's Champion. No other celebrity has ever done this when accepting an award and we can only hope this is the new standard:
"I'm here tonight because to be an icon is about how long you have had your platform. Being an icon is what you do with that platform."
When Lizzo accepted her People's Choice Awards last week, she reminded us of why she is the greatest musician, activist, and humanitarian. Lizzo has and will always use her platform to amplify marginalized voices.
