You may feel like this tough season (“great wilderness”) has been going on forever (“forty years”), but remember God SEES you.

You don’t lack anything when you have God. You may not have everything you WANT, but you do have what you NEED (“You have lacked nothing”).

You do not NEED to know the outcome of this situation. As God once told my friend, “If you knew the outcome NOW, what would it change?”

And take heart… God knows your tired. God knows your frustrated. God knows your even frustrated at Him. You can tell Him that. You can ask Him today for help. You don’t have to wait until you this season is over. God’s help is available now.

I told God I have a terrible fear that people will leave me. People only like me because there’s something in it for them. Once they’ve gotten what they needed, they’ll get rid of me. I’m disposable. They don’t really want to be friends with me, they just want what they can get out of me.

God then asked me, “have you done this to people?”

Oof. And you know what? The answer was… yes.

Yes, I have used people. Yes, I purposefully have befriended people who had “strengths” (better social status, looks, etc.) to “make up for my inadequacies”.

My view of friendship has been skewed by the way others have treated me, but it’s also been skewed by the way I have treated people.

Jesus teaches us to love UNconditionally. We should not expect anything in return.

Love is not transactional.

What’s amazing is that soon after God had me realized this, He started naming friends in my life one by one. He said He is using these people to REDEFINE friendship for me. He’s already been working on this problem for YEARS. Wow. Thank You, God, that You heal us before we know we need healing.
