October 21 | FEAST OF SAN PEDRO CALUNGSOD
Catechist and Martyr; Second FIlipino Saint
Patron Saint of the Filipino Youth

Pedro Calungsod, was a teen-aged native of the Visayas region of the Philippines. He was one of the boy catechists who went with some Spanish Jesuits missionaries from the Philippines to the Ladrones Islands, later renamed "Marianas" - in 1668 to evangelize the Chamorros. On April 2, 1672, while helping Fr. Diego Luis de San Vitores, the rector of the Mission, to recover a runaway servant and to do some baptism at the village of Tomhon on the Island of Guam, he was killed by two natives for his being a Christian, for catechizing the Chamorros, and for helping in the administration of the Sacrament of baptism. His body was thrown into the deep ocean together with that of the rector who was also killed after him.

PRAYER:
All-powerful and eternal God, you made Saint Pedro Calungsod faithful in the preaching of the Gospel even to the point of shedding his blood. By his merits and intercession, grant that we may also be strong in faith to persevere until death. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

August is the month dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We continue begging the Blessed Mother to PRAY FOR US! Our world needs her intercession so badly!

A Prayer to the Immaculate Heart:
O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thine Immaculate Heart.

We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are. To thee we give our bodies, our hearts and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families, our country. We desire that all that is in us and around us may belong to thee, and may share in the benefits of thy motherly benediction. And that this act of consecration may be truly efficacious and lasting, we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our Baptism and our first Holy Communion.

We pledge ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith, and to live as befits Catholics who are duly submissive to all the directions of the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him. We pledge ourselves to keep the commandments of God and His Church, in particular to keep holy the Lord's Day. We likewise pledge ourselves to make the consoling practices of the Christian religion, and above all, Holy Communion, an integral part of our lives, in so far as we shall be able so to do.

Finally, we promise thee, O glorious Mother of God and loving Mother of men, to devote ourselves whole-heartedly to the service of thy blessed cult, in order to hasten and assure, through the sovereignty of thine Immaculate Heart, the coming of the kingdom of the Sacred Heart of thine adorable Son, in our own hearts and in those of all men, in our country and in all the world, as in heaven. so on earth.

Hail, Holy Queen!
Mother of Mercy,
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, O Most Gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us,
And after this, our exile, show unto us the most blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary,
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

St Dominic, pray for us.

Blessed feast of St. Dominic!

Today the Church celebrates this 12th century Spanish theologian, who founded the Order of Preachers–also known as the Dominicans. The order now has around 6,000 members—friars, sisters, nuns, and lay members. There are five religious Dominican communities here in the archdiocese!

What is the Transfiguration?

The Transfiguration of Jesus is one of the key events in Jesus’ life. He took three apostles – Peter, James, and John – up to a high mountain to pray. As they were praying, His appearance changed, and His clothes became “dazzling white.” At that point, Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke to the Lord about His upcoming death. A cloud overshadowed the group, and God the Father’s voice came from the cloud saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!”
