El Nido Day 03: Motorbiked to Nacpan Beach (Best beach hands down in El Nido imho), drove 1-2 hours randomly to find markets, hoopers, and views. Talked to the owner of the motor rental shop. Sunset at Lio Beach to cap off the trip ❤️

So…much…sand…LOL. Pacifico Beach by far had the most walkable and pretty sand (if you’re one of those, ‘dip your toes in the sand’ kind of bohemians) that we visited in Siargao🏖. It also had great waves for surfing (if you’re one of those ‘wait 20 minutes to stand up and balance for 10 seconds’ kind of people) 🏄🤷‍♂️.
I did neither. Instead, I sat under a canopy to avoid getting proverbially finger blasted by the sun, and sipped on a fresh cold coconut 🥥. But I can’t complain about the VIEW (no not me, the next few photos) 🏝

Let’s rewind to 2016. Maybe some of my newer followers might not know, but OG ones can attest that I initially developed my following on the gram because of my ‘foodstagramming’.

I’ve always loved food, and I dreamed of trying out all the offerings and variety available here in the Philippines (one of the big reasons I moved out here in the first place). I am an awful photographer. I only use Auto settings because idk what shutter speed and ISO mean, and looking at the local foodiegram scene with their awesome artsy and tasteful (pun intended) shots, I knew I couldn’t compete. So instead I decided to just take photos with food while doing dumb faces, and supplementing that with a bomb ass caption (when people actually used to read captions, pre-Tik Tok era lol). Does anyone remember the food landi-ology series? I’d spend a long time thinking of funny stuff to write related to the food in the picture, and people engaged with it!

Well, it seemed like my plan kinda worked. If you scroll back to my older posts, engagement went through the roof! I gained thousands of followers and likes for each wack shot and corny caption, and suddenly I was getting invites from restaurants and other food people. To me the food invites were amazing (free food, hello?!), but what I didn’t expect was that the more life-changing aspect of this ‘Foodie Fame’ was meeting the eclectic cast of characters of the ‘foodgrammer/blogger’ world. I have made lifelong friends that to this day are some of the closest and realest people that I can rely on, whether food is involved or not. A special shout out to fam for literally feeding me through invites for almost 3 years 😋🤣

Though I have since ‘retired’ that foodie persona, it’s a part of my first few year here that will forever be dear to me. And proved to me that food really is a universal language that can bring people together, so to everyone who found me through food and stayed for the other parts of me, thanks for sticking around!
Pinasversary 2023 (Vol. 02)

Every August 11 is my Pinasversary. I moved here in 2015 so this will be year 8!

Will take some space on the feed this week to document the different highlights of my journey here:

Let’s start with my first foray into the wild world of Commercial Acting. It was a classic ‘fish out if water’ scenario. What the hell is a VTR? How do I get auditions? Will I ever be in a Jollibee commercial? (update: still hasn’t happened but fingers crossed!). The fun origin story I have for this is I was in an Uber (remember Uber?!) and was discussing my dreams of fame and fortune with my driver. By what I can only determine as fate, he happened to sideline as a commercial talent, and drove me to my first Agency (I don’t even remember where I was originally going). In this small ratchet ass room, located in a random building in Makati, I did my first ‘Yes Acting’ and ‘Name, Age, Height’ spiels. I learned by doing and asking strangers in the industry as to how to become successful.

Along the way I made some great friends, because you ALWAYS run into the same people (because everyone looks like you a.k.a pegs lol) and landed some pretty cool projects. I still remember how damn cool it was to see myself as a Fireman on a NATIONAL TV COMMERCIAL in between the 2016 NBA finals (and LBJ daddying GSW) a real ‘look ma I made it’ moment I’ll never forget.

From what I learned, some commercial talents couldn’t land roles after months/years of auditioning, and I was fortunate enough to land a handful over the course of 2-3 years. I couldn’t find a lot of them, but these screenshots show a snippet of my life that reminds me of grinding through casting calls in Makati (sometimes 3-5 a day!), the thrill of getting that approved talent text message, and being able to say that I was once upon a lifetime ago, a ‘model’ 🕺🤣

[Long inspirational post ahead] This is my daughter Margaux and she takes after me. She’s got swagger, smooth supple skin, and fluffy flowing locks that would make Rapunzel jealous. We also kind of smell the same. Interpret that however you want 🐶😎

This Bichon wants to be the next . But why you may ask? Well one night she came up to me, she looked me in the eye and woofed “Father, I want to change the world.” Now as a new dog-father, I didn’t want to break her heart. After all, what can one single dog do to change the world? 🥺
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But then suddenly I had a vision. A doggy dirt pile emerged from the ground, and out popped the spirits of Scooby-Doo, Snoopy, Pluto, Lassie, and Goofy. I thought this dog-mania had ended but then the silhouettes of Mutley, Wishbone, Droopy, and Pongo (after defeating Cruella DeVille) came running faster than you can say zoomies. Then suddenly, the clouds parted, and through a ray of sunshine emerged the world renowned Air Bud, sans basketball, and landed in front of this pooch-tastic pack of four-pawed legends 🦸🦴

They all looked at me with their glowing, hopeful eyes (except Droopy, his eyelids were heavy). And they all barked in unison, creating a mesmerizing crescendo of howls, echoing the achievements each of them had created in their own stories: “One dog can change the world.” 🐾🌏
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I suddenly awoke from the haze of this canine induced trance, and in front of me was my dear, sweet Margaux. And I finally understood. I knew in that moment, that she was going to change the world, one billboard at a time 💪💙

Bataan’s historical richness is a key highlight for those looking to discover sites outside of just ‘wow that’s a nice view’ tourism.

Admittedly I have never been someone that invested or interested in culture (I actively avoid Art and Museums destinations when planning a trip). But since Bataan was thin on destinations, I decided might as well.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m glad I did because I feel like it’s changed my perspective on touring places I’ve never been to. Visiting the WWII Museum was such an educational experience. Seeing landmarks/monuments (like the flaming sword and Bataan Death March Mile Markers) where significant historical events occurred really reinforced that everything that stands now stems from the memories of the times before us.

So thank you Bataan for enforcing in me the importance of looking into learning the history of places I plan to visit in the future, and pair those accordingly with the banger IG Worthy destinations, to fully embrace the whole experience of discovering the undiscovered

Been a little busy but continuing the Bataan Backlog! Now we look at the historical aspect of Mt Samat ✝️🏔

Located just below the giant cross (Pics 2/7) is a shrine which looks like it was lifted right out of a Greek historical site. It depicts the story of the bravery of Filipino and American soldiers that stood their ground and fought valiantly during WWII. If you look at the other pictures, you can see some details of the historical tales and artifacts that tell their stories. Even for non history buffs like myself, it was a really great learning experience!

ALASKA is Cold 🥶 but the views are fire 🔥 (SWIPE to 👀). Here I am pointing at a mountain with snow LOL.

Got to visit Alaska for a few days and spend time with my second mom, Ate Edith, who helped raise me when I was a kid! We drove up to Flat Top Trail where you can see a mountain top view of Anchorage, and feel the winds of Elsa chapping your lips. We also got to walk along the Potter Marsh Boardwalk (Pics 6-8) which gave literal cinematic views of Alaska’s natural beauty.

Who’d have thought that the NUMBER ONE Independent Pizza restaurant in all of America is in ALASKA?!

Some of the best (and biggest) pizza slice I’ve ever had, they had some really unique flavors. And it’s cool cause you can split flavors onto one pie (so you could get two flavors on one large). So we ordered four different toppings across two large pizzas.

The ‘Wild Mushroom’ was my favorite, and it had no meat on it! The goat cheese was fire! Also tried the ‘Amazing Apricot’ (with hella carrots), the ‘Call of the Wild’ with REINDEER SAUSAGE, and the ‘Pickle Rick’ which validated my pickles on pizza combo that I would always do at home before lol.

They also have their own home made Cream Soda, as well as their own home brewery Beer. Didn’t get to try the beer (Gout Probz), but the Cream Soda was nice!
Also it feels like a snow resort cabin inside, very Hot Tub Time Machine feels (Great white buffalo!)

Adding to the brilliance of Chicago’s downtown area is the awesome RIVER WALK! The river is where you can see many tourist boats that take you along and show you the architectural landmarks by water. I didn’t have the budget to try, so instead I opted to walk along the river walk and see the different restaurants/bars next to the water, and people watch.

I didn’t walk the whole stretch but am confident in my 40 mins or so of exploring that it is such a delight, and plus points cause the river doesn’t smell LOL. It’s even better at night, but I didn’t take pics, so just take my word for it. Perfect for a stroll with friends and then a brewski after! Had a gout flare up after but worth it 😆

Making a post-covid triumphant return to some content (Volume 69 at that 😏), and what better way than with a shot of coffee and grammable aesthetics straight into your social media glands.

If ever you're in Angeles, Pampanga and are looking for a clean, visually pleasing spot, should hit the spot. Tried their 'Sinature Kalidad Coffee' (Pic 2), the sweetened milk was the highlight for me, I usually take my coffee black so my ability to describe tastes other than 'bitter ass' is weak, but I'd describe the signature coffee as mildly sweet and delightful.

Good thing I messages cause she's a coffee w***e and came here ahead of me recently, she told me to cop the cheese & guava puff pastries (Pic 3). Haven't had a great guava pastry since leaving Cali and eating Porto's regularly. I'd say the taste is comparable, and I LOVE Porto's.
