Before the first verse you can hear Tom's guitar go into feedback and he's controlling the note in a musical way. At the end Brad does something you don't hear anymore, improv from emotion.

Maybe part of why today's music doesn't sound the same is the brain drain into tech. in 2023 Tom prob would have created an app and lived in silicon valley, playing guitar just for fun...
