There are different ways to do one thing.

Madaling maniwala na there’s only one right way.

You wan’t to be successful, may mga guru na magsasabi na yung tinuturo lang nila yung one right way to be successful.

You want to get high paying clients, there are people na magsasabi sayo na isang bagay lang yung kailangan mong gawin.

In reality, there are different ways to do one thing.

Imagine this ah, meron kang isang bagay na ginagawa, pero kahit paulit ulit mo siyang sinusubukan, hindi pa rin nagwowork.

Kasi paulit ulit lang rin yung isang bagay na ginagawa mo.

”We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them” ~ Albert Einstein

There will always be other ways to do one thing.

Yun din naman yung purpose ng creativity diba? to do things with different approaches and explore new possibilities.

Be open-minded and try to learn different approaches.

But here’s the catch, of course, you still need to balance yung pagiging open and yung pag judge ng different approach.

Not all approaches are equally effective or bagay para sa isang situation. And most importantly, dapat yung align sa values mo.

Embrace new ideas, be curious, and continue learning.

One way to improve your creative skills, Teach!

Diba when you’re share something sa ibang tao and they engage or interact with you, meron kang bagong natututunan kahit in a small scale.

Hindi man kayo pareho ng perspective, at least you’ll also learn something.

Hindi kabawasan when you share what you know, it actually adds value sa’yo.

When one teaches dalawa ang natututo.

And when you teach mas nagiging interested ka rin sa tinuturo mo.

Nagkakaroon ka ng clarity if that’s really what you want.

Di mo kailangan maging expert agad to teach.

If may natutunan ka ngayon, share it with other people.

If someone corrects you, it’s still an opportunity to learn. Kasi you share something.

Mahirap mag isip ng ideas from scratch.

Do you agree?

What if you can create something out of something, instead of creating from scratch or from nothing?

You can generate new ideas or possibilities that may be useful for you to be creative.

And that’s possible!

If you’re going to ask people na nagppractice ng creativity nila, sasabihin nila na hindi madaling maging creative.

Ideas don’t come out of thin air.

Some days you will feel na creative ka, but may mga times na ang hirap pigain ng utak mo for creative juices.

But if you embrace having inspiration, you can create something out of something.

Sabi nga ni Austin Kleon “All creative work builds on what came before.”

Kailangan mo lang hanapin yung mga dots from different inspirations and connect them to build a new idea.

Do not force creativity!

Madalas tayong makaranas ng creative blocks.

May mga times na nababawasan yung creative thinking mo and even your productivity.

It can occur at any time while doing your project.

Kaya nahihirapan ka to generate ideas or execute your ideas.

What you need to do, is to take a break!

Rest and downtime are crucial to keep you creative.

And kailangan mong mag take ng breaks kasi pag finorce mo yung
creativity mo, baka maburn out ka!

Meron akong podcast called the Creative Incubator and I ask my guests kung paano nila naoovercome yung creative blocks nila.

Most of them have the same answer.

Sabi nila pag nagkakaroon sila ng creative blocks, they need to take a break.

Breaks helped their brains na mag refresh and and magkaroon ng new perspective sa ginagawa nila.

So take a break, maglakad lakad ka muna. take a nap for 10-15 mins, or do something different.

But don’t take too much break, nakakawala din ng creativity yun.

Creativity is about connection!

You need to collaborate with other people para mag expand yung creativity mo.

But you also have to connect with yourself to connect with your creativity.

You need to have a place or time in a day na kung saan you will disconnect from the world to connect with yourself.

Joseph Campbell calls this the Bliss Station!

“A place where you can experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be. This is a place for creative incubation.”

Walang distractions and you only focus on doing the work that you love.

When you are in the bliss station, whatever you are doing, it can help you with your growth and you never know what ideas will pop out during your stay in the bliss station.

Hanap ka lang ng place in your room na kung saan you are comfortable, walang masiyadong ingay, or walang distractions.

Dalhin mo lang dun yung mga bagay na importante para sa gagawin mo.

Don’t bring things that will distract you tulad ng phone mo.

Having a bliss station doesn’t only help you with creativity but also with productivity and other things that you enjoy doing.

So if you want to connect more sa creativity mo, build your bliss station.

Tulad ng isang building that needs a strong foundation..
.your creativity also relies on a solid foundation

which is understanding the basics.

Yup. Learning the basics or the fundamentals sa kung saan mang creative field ka gives you a strong foundation for creativity.

I remember nung first time ko mag freediving.

Before namin subukan, merong orientation para ituro yung mga fundamentals.

And bago kami tuluyang mag freedive, the first step is to try muna yung line training (see image below) para ma grasp at mag adapt sa concept ng freediving.

I wasn't successful sa pag freedive, kaya pinapabalik balik ako sa line training hanggang sa makuha ko yung idea.

Without a solid understanding of the basics, mahirap iapproach ang isang problem from a different perspective.

Kaya nga lagi nilang sinasabi pag nahihirapan na tayo “Go back to basic”

Basics have a structure that will give you guidelines and principles na makakatulong to channel your creativity.

Kaya wag mong mamaliitin yung basics, dahil napakalaking factor niyan sa ginagawa mo.

I believe in the individuality ng bawat isa satin!

That our lives are made up of unique and different experiences.

At yung experiences na yun, can create unique perspectives and unique creative ideas.

You have to embrace it and use it para mapalawak yung creative perspective mo.

Talk to other people or collaborate with them.

Malamang at sa malamang, may makukuha kang kang ideas from those people na makakausap mo.

Sometimes nga rin, yung mga creative ideas na naiisip natin, hindi galing sa mind natin, but it came from the interactions we’ve made with other people.

All you need to do is talk about your ideas with different people.

Get their perspective and be open with it.

Pag meron kang creative freedom and endless ideas for creativity, diba ang saya?

Pero..
.dahil marami kang ideas, marami kang options, minsan and hirap magdecide kung saan ka magsisimula.

But what if bigyan mo yung sarili mo ng limitations?

Some rules or restrictions.

Mukha siyang limiting para sa ability mo to create.

Pero usually, it will guide you to create something.

Try creating something na may limitations. Like for example mag drawing ka ng isang character.

Do it in 2 minutes.

Possible na hindi maganda yung kalabasan, but observe how you think during that time.

Tumataas yung creativity adrenaline mo and somehow mas nakakapag isip ka ng ideas kung paano mo gagawin.

Hindi mo kailangan palagi to think outside the box, minsan kailangan mo ibox yung sarili mo to help you be more creative.

When we're starting as a designer, there's a probability that we copy designs. I DO!

Para mag practice or minsan to try if kaya din nating gawin.

But whether you're starting or may experience na, if you want to copy a design, don't just copy it.

Design is not just taking every element into one design para mag mukhang maganda.

Each element is chosen intentionally bago ilagay sa isang design.

So wag mo lang kopyahin element by element ang isang design, but try to analyze why it is designed.

Analyze the creative process.

You can ask yourself these questions:

”Paano kaya naisip ng designer yung design na to?”

”How does the design make me feel?”

”Anong colors and font yung ginamit and paano sila nagwowork together?”

or “Ano yung pwede mong maimprove sa design?”

Answering those questions will help you break down the details ng isang design.

And you’ll figure out kung bakit effective yung design na yun.

With that, hindi mo nalang kokopyahin yung design, but you’ll have your own way of designing creatively.

Di maiiwasan na maubusan tayo ng ideas for creativity, but knowing the concept of Creative Bank Account might help you.

Our brains are like a BANK

A bank for creativity.

Lahat tayo merong creative bank account.

This concept is from Jake Parker.

He said that a creative bank account is something that everyone harbors in their minds. It is creative capital and you spend this creative capital every time you make something.

Whenever na may ginagawa kang something creative, you are withdrawing from your creative bank account.

So nababawasan yung account mo.

Nauubusan ka ng ideas para sa projects na ginagawa mo.

What you have to do para madagdagan is to deposit creativity.

Maraming ways on how to do it.

One is by consuming ideas from different resources.

From reading books, watching movies, social interactions, and many more.

The idea is para meron kang mawithdraw sa creative bank account mo, you need to deposit first.

Para magkaroon ka ng ideas for creativity, you need input.

Sabi nga nila, walang output if walang input.

“Suffering is optional” ~ taking this phrase in the context of visual communication!

Last weekend, I attended a 2-day Visual Communication Masterclass by Roq Cleo

It’s an experiential workshop where you will apply right away what you’ve learned.

One of my key takeaways; you can create designs without having a hard time thinking what to design and where to start.

You just have to follow a design process, that will guide you through designing a human-centered design.

Making it easy to create, hence the phrase “Suffering is Optional.”

Design thinking is the framework used during this workshop. When I learned about this, it makes me dive deep on this topic.

It has the process of creating a human-centered design.

From Empathy (understanding the behavior of your audience), Define (finding specific problem), Ideate (finding the specific problem), Prototype (making things tangible), to Test (getting immediate feedback)

If you’re a designer or in the creative field, learning about visual communication is a must!

You’ll also know the true essence of why we are designing and for whom.

Referral is one of the best tools to market your services!

It’s a marketing strategy that let people and your clients share your products or services without you asking them.

Best part of it, it’s mostly free!

But how do you achieve this strategy?

Make your clients happy.

Easier said than done, but to make them happy, you have to give the best service that they can have.

Give them an experience that they won’t forget, a seamless process, quality product, or going above and beyond for what is expected.

If they feel happy with your service, they will also be happy to advocate for your business.

They will recommend you to their friends, leave a good review, and even post something good about you.

If done right, referrals or word-of-mouth is so powerful that it can sustain your business without you actively marketing yourself thru other means.

So the next time you get a client, let them have the best experience that you can give them ❤️
