Quarryman

Quarryman Quarryman is the literary journal of University College Cork. Past contributors include Greg Delanty and Theo Dorgan.

It features poetry and prose from students and staff of UCC and is now entering its sixth year of publication. ‘Quarryman’ was the student-run literary journal of UCC throughout the 20th century and was recently relaunched by UCC’s inaugural MA in Creative Writing class. UCC English Literature Society hope to continue the journal’s legacy. We are now accepting poetry and prose from all current UCC

students and staff members, with a few special features from past students. Get submitting!: [email protected]

Quarryman 2014 reviews:

‘Within these pages we meet diversity, ingenuity, humour, pathos, compassion and a kaleidoscope of emotions. We experience lives carved out of everyday complications and simplicities, which are sometimes utterly and irreversibly changed. Quarryman asks questions of the reader and the experience of these shared lives will stay with you long afterwards.’
- Louise Phillips, author of Last Kiss

‘It's a perfect reading excursion, its pages inhabited by cyber-stalkers, bereft lovers, dying crows, webless spiders, disillusioned radicals, illicit cadavers, and people treading the uncertain pathways of life, love and loss, negotiating the treacherous terrain of existence. It's a wonderful
collection of works and a triumphant return for Quarryman.’
- Donal Ryan, author of The Spinning Heart

Quarryman is a literary journal produced by UCC English Literature Society. Every year it showcases the talents of UCC students, staff, and alumni and this year is no exception.

Including a foreword thoughtfully composed by UCC’s writer-in-residence Eimear Ryan, this edition features twenty-four poems and twenty pieces of fiction that are sure to move, inspire and entertain.

This is the seventh edition of the much beloved journal & we hope that all those who purchase a copy will enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed producing it.
