"Allow SIM Breathe, There are no 2 Governors in a state" ➖ Retirees back Gov Fubara
Retirees in Rivers State have thrown their weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara, saying that the attempt to impeach him was unconstitutional.
You recall that the state has been experiencing some political tension as a result of a rift between the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara.
The crisis led to an impeachment attempt on the governor by the state lawmakers which was reported to have been plotted by Wike.
A section of the state House of Assembly was burnt by arsonists as well as the suspension of some lawmakers which were perceived to be politically motivated.
One of the leaders of the pensioners in the state, Samuel Eke, told our correspondent that the state is at a standstill which is not healthy for the state, and appealed to Wike and Fubara to sheath their sword.
He said: “We are certainly in solidarity with Governor Siminalayi Fubara over the rift between him and the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike. The retirees and pensioners in the state were not happy with the unconstitutional manner, the impeachment process started.
“For now, we, the pensioners and retirees in the state have not seen any justifiable reason brought forward by the state lawmakers, nor Wike, that would warrant impeachment.
“If you go by what Wike has said, you will find out that there is no tangible reason whatsoever to justify the impeachment process. That is why we are not happy with the whole process.
“We want to advise Wike that there are no two governors in any state. Yes, we know that Wike helped Fubara to be governor but he should give his successor a breathing space and allow him to function as the governor.”
