There comes a time in every career when it's time to retire. Most of you know broadcasting games started out as a way to give the kids at Gallatin County some additional exposure since the Post wouldn't. Most of you also know that I work at St. Elizabeth during the day. As we found with Covid, I find myself working from home most of the week. This does not allow me much time to obtain new sponsors, get out to do game prep, etc.

So that being said, after 17 years, I have decided to retire from broadcasting. I can't thank you all enough for all of the friendships we have made over all of these years. Everyone of you hold a special place in my heart. It's hard to step away, but it's time. Thank you all for your support, your friendship and your help over all of these years. We could not do this without you. Who knows, I may pop in from time to time to see you all. You are a huge part of my life.

ANDERSON JOINS DISTRICT AS LADY PANTHERS COACH

Mr. Scott Anderson has been named the new Head Coach of Carroll County High School Lady Panther Basketball program in July.. “We welcome Coach Anderson to Carroll County Schools. His passion for students shows in both his experience in working with student athletes and from discussions with him about his new role.” said Casey Jaynes, Superintendent of Carroll County Schools.

CCHS Principal Amy Sutter said, “Mr. Anderson is going to be a great addition to our Carroll County Community. In the short time we have worked together, he has already demonstrated his concern for our students by putting the needs of the students first and foremost. We are truly fortunate to have such a committed and knowledgeable teacher on our staff." Coach Anderson comes to Carroll County as the assistant coach for boys basketball in Bath County where their team posted a 27-5 record ending with a trip to the semifinals of the 16 Region tournament. Coach Anderson has a wide and varied experience as an assistant coach, head coach for a variety of sports including Baseball, Football, Softball, Girls and Boys Basketball at both the middle, junior varsity and varsity levels. He holds a Master of Physical Education degree from University of the Cumberlands, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education from Morehead State University. Coach Anderson stated, “I am very excited to be a part of Carroll County Athletics and to lead the Girls Basketball program. We plan to play a very exciting brand of basketball that will be fast and will put up a lot of points on the scoreboard. I look forward to the community filling the gym and supporting the Lady Panthers." Coach Anderson began working with the players and the program before the dead period started in June with several open gyms and conditioning sessions.

Tingle Named Athletic Director

Derek Tingle will serve as Henry County Public Schools’ next Athletic Director. Tingle, who will also continue to serve as the Henry County High School head boys basketball coach, recently began a teaching career with HCHS.

“My love of sports and the opportunity to have a positive impact on young men and women is what brought me to education from the private sector,” Tingle said. “I chose to apply for the athletic director position because I wanted the opportunity to continue pushing Henry County Athletics to the highest level it can be. I feel like I was chosen because of my passion for sports and the willingness to do what it takes to put people and programs in a position to be successful.”

Tingle was born and raised in Henry County. He graduated from HCHS in 2000 after being a three-year starter on the basketball team. He attended Hampden Sydney College for one year and played basketball there before finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Economics at the University of Kentucky. He taught last school year at HCHS as a math interventionist and began his high school coaching career.

“Derek is a fantastic addition to our administrative staff. His vision for HCHS Athletics is both rejuvenating and inspiring. Derek’s passion for our county is what set him apart,” said HCHS Principal Shannon Sageser. “The desire to grow opportunities for students from the youth program level to high school is an exciting task that Derek is eager to undertake. I feel our athletic program is in good hands and will be for some time to come.”

Tingle said his focus as the athletic director will first be on personnel, specifically coaching staffs.

“People are our greatest asset and we need to be sure we are retaining those coaches that are doing a good job,” Tingle said. “Secondly I want to be sure that our facilities remain the best around and enhance our fan experience at all of our events. Lastly, and certainly just as important as the first, is making sure all of our student athletes are afforded every opportunity and resource they need to compete at the highest level.”

Tingle hopes his hometown community will continue to support all school sports and student athletes, and that Henry Countians know that the district’s athletes and coaches strive to make its community proud of them.

“There is so much work that our staff and student athletes put in behind closed doors, before school in the weight room, after school on the practice field or in the gym, weekends and late nights. I hope our community can rally behind all of the effort to show our kids and coaches that all their hard work was worth it,” Tingle said. “There is nothing I want more than to see our athletics program be top-notch. I invite everyone in the community to accept the challenge, along with me, to make our athletics program the best in the state.”
