Everything You Need To Know About Spring Weddings

The birds are chirping, temperatures are rising, and you can finally order iced coffee without feeling judged.

But, before you opt for a springtime wedding, read our guide to find out what's in season, what's in vogue, and what to take into consideration.

The Skinny on Spring Weddings

What are good colors for a March wedding?
Green and Gold.
Silver and Sage.
Mint and Blush.
Lilac and Yellow.
Dusty Rose.
Ivory.
Blush and Champagne.
Cornflower Blue and Peach.

Is March too cold for an outdoor wedding?
The experts say January, February, and March are high-risk months for an outdoor wedding. The riskiest wedding months across the country are January, February, and March since they're smack in the middle of winter with the highest likelihood of inclement weather.

Spring Wedding Pros & Cons
There are so many pros to saying ‘I do’ in the spring—some you might not have considered!

Spring décor. Think pretty pastels, blooming cherry blossoms, and fresh greenery!

You might get more “yes” replies because friends and family aren’t taking conflicting vacations left and right like during the carefree days of summer.
You could have the best of both worlds with an indoor/outdoor wedding—if the weather cooperates or you rent a pretty tent!
But, there are definitely some negatives to a spring wedding:

Spring weather is completely unpredictable in most areas of the U.S.—and even in some more exotic destinations!

Venue and vendor pricing starts to creep upward. Take a look at your budget and decide whether you can afford a peak-wedding season affair...if not, plan for the early part of the season and save.

Destination wedding and honeymoon prices could also go up due to spring break and all the folks looking to get a head start on their tan.
Your favorite venues and vendors could be booked up months to years in advance for springtime wedding dates. Yup, it's all about supply and demand

Approved Tips for Choosing the Ultimate Last Song for Your Wedding

At the end of the (big) day, all of your hard work culminates in one final moment: the last dance of the wedding reception. Since you want to end the night on a high note, you might be wondering how you can ensure that your guests leave the party feeling happy and fulfilled following the final track. To help you plan a party that's a total blast from start to finish, Seattle DJ Pro will help you choose the right last song for your reception.

Professional tips on how to choose the last song

Step 1: Pick something epic.
Going out with a bang doesn't have to include fireworks, but the last song of the night should reflect your excitement to be leaving the reception as a newlywed couple. If you have a great band, I'm a fan of an epic, lighters-in-the-air vibe for the last song. Ideally, it's been a long, amazingly fun, sweaty night of dancing, and it's nice to wrap everything up with a triumphant finish.

Step 2: Bring everybody together.
Weddings are all about the merging of two families, after all. What better way to signify this than to get your guests on their feet one final time? Look for a track that allows you, your friends, and your family to share one last moment together. A unifier. An exclamation point. Something that gives you one last chance to sing at the top of your lungs, sweat through your clothes, or hold on tight to the love of your life.

Step 3: Make it mean something.
Maybe you and your partner share a favorite band, or perhaps your friend group has a go-to on the jukebox at your neighborhood dive bar. We always ask our brides and grooms to think about a song that has some significance within their group of friends, family, or between them as the couple. This could be a song that brings everyone together at the end of the night singing at the top of their lungs or dancing like maniacs one more time before the lights come on. Just don't make it an "inside" song that only you and your groom-or attendees of a certain age-know. It's no fun if only a few people can sing along while the rest are left out.

Step 4: Avoid sad, slow songs.
I try to steer my clients away from anything too obscure or overly sad. I also like to have a couple different options. It can be hard to predict what the end of the night will look and feel like, so some flexibility is nice. We tend to have high-energy dance parties at our weddings, and if we pull out a slow song to finish the night off it will really change the energy of the event.

Step 4: Get it stuck in their heads-in a good way.
Music is a memory-trigger for many. The last song of the night should be the proverbial cherry on top of the party-it can be anything from a song that everyone can dance to, sway to, sing along to, or a guilty pleasure. It's a good practice to picture your guests having that song stuck in their head when they think back on dancing at your wedding.

Step 4: Try one of these expert-approved picks.
Still stuck on how you want to end the night? Check out Seattle DJ Pro suggestions to get you started.

"Anything Could Happen" – Ellie Goulding
"Somebody To Love" – Queen
"All My Friends" – LCD Soundsystem
"Proud Mary" – Ike & Tina Turner
"Born to Run" – Bruce Springsteen
"Hey Jude" – The Beatles
"Rockin' in the Free World" – Neil Young
"Say It Ain't So" – Weezer
"Home" – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
"I Will Wait" – Mumford & Sons

8 Romantic Valentine's Day Proposal Ideas

Proposing on Valentine's Day can be tricky. On one hand, it is the most romantic day of the year so it can be a good day to pop the question. On the other hand, proposing on a holiday can turn super cheesy if it isn't done properly. ... The element of surprise is a must, especially on Valentine's Day.

Need ideas for an amazing proposal?

Go Cliché!
It’s OK to embrace your favorite Valentine’s Day clichĂ©s, as sometimes it’s the silliest moments that become the biggest surprises. For this proposal idea, choose an appropriate time to present your significant other with a large box of chocolates and a stuffed animal or a dozen red roses. Before the big moment, sneak the engagement ring inside the box of delectable sweets.

Once you present them with these gifts (that may result in a chuckle or an eye roll), share a story that celebrates you as a couple. Then say “You know something? Life, truly, is like a box of chocolates.” Encourage them to open the box as you drop to one knee, gazing upon their face as they find what’s inside. Then finish the quote by saying “You never know what you’re going to get.”

Storybook Lane
Why not make your engagement one that will be told for generations to come? This proposal idea dives right into the story of you and your love, celebrating the places and moments that have shaped you as a couple. You can take a drive to your earliest memories together whether it’s a playground, high school parking lot, or even where your first date took place. Tour your memories in these places and reflect on how they defined your love for each other.

Then, pull up to a restaurant where you’ve made a reservation. Your partner may ask “Why are we here?” or “I don’t recognize this place.” That’s your cue to pull out the ring and say “This is my new favorite memory
it’s where I celebrated my first dinner with my new fiancĂ©.” All that’s left is to embrace and celebrate the start of this next exciting phase together.

Spa Day
Surprising your sweetheart with a spa day is a perfect way to kick off your Valentine’s Day proposal. Even better? Creating your own spa atmosphere in the comfort of your home. While your partner is away, prepare the bedroom by arranging rose petals on the bed either in a heart shape or in their name. You can also place a new book and their favorite cup of tea on their nightstand for extra comfort. Then, draw a warm bath and fill it with soothing bath salts before surrounding the tub with their favorite scented candles.

When they arrive home, joke how you wanted them to relax before a lifetime of stress with you. As you pull out the ring, tell them how you tried to get the bath to a perfect temperature, but that nothing will make them feel as warm as the way they make you feel.

Home Cooked Meal
Nothing says “I love you” more than stepping out of your comfort zone. And sometimes, this can mean cooking a romantic dinner. With thousands of cookbooks and YouTube How-To videos at your disposal, cooking your partner’s favorite meal is a thoughtful way of showing them the leaps you’re willing to take to make them happy.

To help set the romantic mood, consider preparing some simple yet aphrodisiac bites such as oysters and chocolate-covered strawberries. Once they see the effort you put into making your evening together special, share how you’d be willing to do anything that scares you as long as it was with them.

Movie Night
Nothing beats a movie night complemented with popcorn and a box of chocolate-covered raisins. Just dim the lights, grab a blanket, and flick on your favorite romantic film. Movies have a way of connecting us, as they hold a mirror to the way we treat and see others who are important in our lives. Why not use this as inspiration?

During the film’s climax, recite the lines spoken by the main character as they profess their love to their partner. Near the end of the monologue, pause the film and turn to your love, telling them you think you can do a better job of conveying what the actor is trying to say. Then, make the most romantic day of the year one that you and your soon-to-be-fiancĂ© will remember forever.

Ice Skating
Many places still offer the chance to go ice skating during Valentine’s Day, one of the most romantic ways to spend an afternoon or evening. It’s also an opportunity to hold hands, share some laughs, and make new memories before the ice melts away.

For your proposal, channel your inner goofball by taking a fall to the ground — unless, of course, it happens naturally! When your sweetheart asks if you’re OK, begin to say “Well, now that we’ve broken the ice, and seeing as I’m already on the ground
” Then, if you can manage it, get on one knee and ask “Will you marry me?” Hopefully, they’ll spare you from a freezing knee and lift you up with a warm hug and an engagement.

Valentine’s Day Getaway
If you’re still recovering from the holiday season, why not skip the crowded restaurants and expensive gifts and take a mini-vacation to celebrate Valentine’s Day? You can surprise your sweetheart with a spontaneous, romantic weekend in a quaint Airbnb at a destination of your choice.

Whether it’s a trip to the coast or a weekend in the mountains, make your time together count by showing them how adventure can be found anywhere — as long as it is with them. Find the right opportunity to execute your perfect proposal, and turn what was originally a surprise weekend getaway into a proposal story to share with loved ones upon your return.

Surprise Party
Some people prefer to avoid the clichĂ©s and silliness of Valentine’s Day — and that’s OK. Instead of celebrating the holiday, why not turn February 14th into a giant surprise party for your partner? Explain how your friends and family wanted to celebrate the love you have for each other by telling them “We had to surprise somebody, right?”

You can enjoy delicious food, fun games, and maybe even some karaoke, where you’ll have the chance to sing a ballad that embodies how you feel. Follow the song with a marriage proposal in front of your loved ones by ending with “They say when you marry someone, you’re marrying the family too, right?” Then, relish the joyous applause and cheers from the crowd after you hear that resounding “Yes.”

7 Things Wedding DJs Wish They Could Tell You

For DJs, there's a lot more to their job than just pressing start and stop on your wedding playlist. These are the secret pet peeves and best advice for couples getting married.

Read below to get the best tips for your wedding

Step 1: Keep the photo booth and bar in the same area as the dance floor
A separate bar and dance floor mean the crowd gets spread out and fewer people are having fun on the dance floor. The party goes wherever the bride and groom go, so if the bar and photo booth are outside, the party would follow the bride and groom to the bar and photo booth.

Step 2: Try not to overload the DJ with song requests
Of course, your wedding DJ will play your favorite songs, but don't go overboard on the requests. If you invested in a good DJ, let them do their thing. Or fill up cocktails and dinner with specific song requests. DJs are happy to play Wilson Phillip's "Hold On" for you during dinner, but let them cater to the crowd on the dance floor.

Step 3: Don't plan too many events during the reception
Cramming in the entrance, first dance, toasts, cake cutting, bouquet toss, and garter dance distracts guests from the dance floor. Try to accommodate those events first before open dancing so it doesn't kill the party vibe.

Step 4: Give your DJ phonetic spellings of names that will be announced
Nothing is more cringe-worthy than a DJ messing up your name at your own wedding. Not all DJs will go out of their way to check names. At least if you write it down for them they have a chance.

Step 5: Make sure your planner gives the DJ the finalized timeline
Remember, the DJ needs to be in the loop too! This is important because the DJ/MC will need to keep time so all events are running smoothly.

Step 6: Avoid giving your DJ updates at the last minute
Last minute changes are a major pet peeve for wedding DJs. At a point, you have to let the details go and just enjoy what you have planned to that point.

Step 7: Remember: Seattle DJ Pro will make your wedding fun
It's completely okay (and totally normal) to be picky about your DJ. A good DJ can seamlessly mix through different genres and not just press play and pause. That in itself can kill the dance floor. Seattle DJ Pro will make sure your guests have fun and dance!

How to Choose a Reception Entrance Song for Each Member of Your Wedding Party

Have you been looking forward to having a little fun with your wedding party's reception entrances? Then the song you select is crucial to pulling it off in a way that's lighthearted—yet not totally embarrassing—for everyone. Here are a few tips to selecting songs that'll get the energy going.

The best way to choose entrance songs

Step 1: Make It Personal
Reception entrance songs should always be something upbeat and fun. Select songs that reflect inside jokes or remind you and your friends of a specific phase you went through together. You always want to be sure the song is something they'll be comfortable with and get a laugh out of.

Step 2: Check Out Theme Songs
Use theme songs from the 80s and 90s television shows. This is great for introducing friends you've had from back in the day (especially if anyone is particularly good at doing The Carlton). Anything that's really recognizable for both guests and the wedding party members works well here. You can even bring in props if you really want to get literal with it.

Step 3: Bring in a Live Music Element
If you're comfortable bringing in something a little more bold and thematic, you could incorporate a live music element here instead of a DJ intro. Bring in a local marching band, have a drumline lead the way, or hire a local brass band to make the entrance lively and fun. You can use the same crew to play the cocktail hour as well. Seattle DJ Pro can also provide live recordings of just about whatever music you need.

Step 4: A Little Irony Is Comedy Gold
If you're going to commit to doing personalized entrance songs go all the way; either choose something that 100% fits the person, or select a song that is the antithesis of their personality and might even be considered wildly inappropriate. For example, if you want to give Great Gramma Ethel an ironic hip-hop entrance, make it Ludacris's "Move B*, Get Out the Way." Have fun, see if you can get a few laughs out of it, and kick off the party with a room full of energy.

Step 5: Seattle DJ Pro can help you pick entrance songs
Contact your DJ if you need inspiration or help picking songs.

Steps On How To Avoid These 4 Wedding Music Mistakes

There are so many details to take care of when planning a wedding, and lots of room for things to fall through the cracks. You want your day to be perfect, and music sets the scene for your special ceremony and reception. Here are some wedding music tips to ensure your music hits all the right notes on your big day, and the top eight things to avoid:

Don't Make These Common Wedding Music Mistakes

Step 1: Don’t hire musicians to play solely for the ceremony.
Musicians are versatile, so make sure to get the best bang for your buck. If you only hire musicians to play for your ceremony time, your guests will walk into an empty room of silence and wonder if they’ve arrived too early – or to the right place at all! Hire Seattle DJ Pro to and we can help you overcome this issue.

Step 2: Don’t Choose A First Dance Song That’s Too Long
We’ve seen it happen again and again. The bride chooses a six-minute song, and everyone is snoozing one minute in. Trust us, if you’re in front of a crowd, you’ll want it to be over quickly too. Choose a song that’s meaningful to you and your new spouse, but do your best to keep it short. You’ll be glad you did, and your guests won’t lose focus either.

Step 3: Your Guests Make Strange Song Requests (That You Don’t Want To Hear)
In fact, “The bride said it was ok to request this!” has been heard by many a musician. Make sure your reception entertainment knows who is calling the shots. Tip: If you are the bride or groom, it’s a good idea to assign someone you trust to communicate with the band about music one the day of, but not your entire bridal party.

Step 4: You Didn’t Hire the Band to Play Long Enough
Pictures, toasts, and formalities have eaten up tons of time at your reception and now there is only time for one hour of dancing when you hired the DJ for four hours. When their contracted time is up, they are out, whether you’ve gotten your fill of music or not.

Consider hiring your DJ past your scheduled stop time, and make this call before your wedding day. For example, if your reception is scheduled to end at 10 p.m., hire the wedding entertainment until 10:30. Then, if the party is rocking and you don’t want to end, you’re not stuck with a fee you didn’t anticipate.

Step 5: Music is Micromanaged
The DJ is just in the swing of things, the dance floor is finally full and they stop to take a “scheduled” break. Give your band or DJ the flexibility to adjust to the crowd’s response. If the dance floor is full, it’s best not to abruptly stop them to throw a bouquet.

Your wedding is a celebration, not the Oscars. It’s OK if the “master schedule” is adjusted slightly for the sake of a good time. Other than ceremony music and first dances, DJs and bands should have the creative freedom to play songs in an order that will compliment that particular part of the reception.

Tip: Make a preferred list and a “do-not-play” list and leave the rest up to the professionals.

The Biggest Wedding Budgeting Mistakes to Avoid

Whether you have $100,000, $10,000 or $1,000 to spend, here's how to budget for your wedding the right way. "Expensive" and "stressful" might be two things that come to mind when you think of wedding budget planning, but they don't have to be. Below, we share the biggest budgeting mistakes you should avoid in order to make your wedding planning process as fun and cost-efficient as possible. We also break down exactly how much each wedding element generally costs to help you determine how much to allocate for each item and service. Once you have an idea of how to properly divide funds, you'll be able to avoid potential budgeting mistakes.

Below, we outline how much of your wedding budget should be allocated to specific expenses.

Step 1: The general budget
If you're planning on a formal candlelit dinner in the grand ballroom of that amazing hotel downtown, your budget is clearly going to have to be much bigger than if you've sketched out an afternoon tea and dessert party in your parent's pretty backyard. In general, there are several major factors that will really affect what you'll need to set aside.

Step 2: Not Allocating Funds Correctly
Just like buying shoes, an apartment, or a pair of jeans, when it comes to financing a wedding, you should figure out how much you need to spend to get what you want. Set your expectations accordingly, and use our budget breakdown above as a guide. (FYI, the average wedding cost is $33,931.) To avoid stress, also allot 5% of your budget for a "just-in-case" fund. If you're paying for your honeymoon yourselves, remember to budget for that as well.

If you're asking yourself how you can possibly save up for something as expensive as a wedding, don't worry—it's doable. As soon as you're engaged, start putting aside as much of your income as you can for the wedding. Saving 20% of your monthly income is a good—though lofty—goal. The longer your engagement, the more you'll be able to put away. You can also save up by limiting your spending on small stuff (watching Netflix instead of going out, curbing your Starbucks habits, and so on). These changes will hardly affect your quality of life, but after a year, the extra cash will cover some wedding essentials.

Step 3: Not Being Realistic
As mentioned above, it's easy to oversimplify some of the financial aspects of a wedding. To stay on top of your wedding budget, you have to be realistic about what each element generally costs. Once you know this, it's easier to allocate funds from your budget.
