You are once again young. Early to mid 20's . . . and you are asked to go on a mission from which it is highly likely you will not return alive. Your family and friends must not know about it as it is top-secret. You won't have a chance to say goodbye. To anyone. Parents, spouse, children.

Do you accept the mission?

At least 80 men did. 79 years ago this month.

These were the "Doolittle Raiders" who left the safety of their aircraft carrier, to fly their 16 modified B-25 bombers into Japan, bomb Tokyo, and then fly till their fuel was exhausted, with not enough fuel to return to the carrier or to a safe haven. Most of them would crash-land or parachute into China. They knew from the beginning that the chances of their survival was very, very low. Would any of them survive?

That's what this week's cover story is all about. A chance to remember a top secret mission by some dedicated men who were willing to sacrifice their lives to win the war.
